About Mama Lion
OUR STORY
In 1978, a night club and cabaret named Mama Lion first opened its doors at this very same location at the landmark corner of 6th and Western Avenue. It quickly became one of the areas hottest destinations, where some of LA’s finest came to dine, groove to live music, and dance the night away.
After a long and successful run, Mama Lion was later bought out and the space became home to a series of notable nightclubs in the 80s and 90s, including “Juliana’s” and “Sixth Avenue”. However, this storied space eventually fell into disrepair, becoming blighted and vacant for many years.
Nearly 40 years later, Mama Lion roared back to life after extensive construction and reimagining of the space in May 2017. The name of the venue was restored as an homage to the original venue and in recognition of the historical significance Mama Lion played in launching the local nightlife scene decades ago.
Our vision was to create a space that maintained many of the original elements of this historic 1926 building while seamlessly infusing contemporary design elements. The result is a truly unique and timeless space created by our award winning design team.
