About Scuttlebutt Taproom & Brewery

 

Founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996, the idea started as a homebrewing kit for Father’s Day 1990. As thoughtful as the gift was, it was also a source of strife – Scuttle wanted to use the kitchen for preparing meals for the family while Phil was crowding her out in favor of homemade beer. To maintain marital bliss we decided to move out of the kitchen and into a larger operation. A business plan was established in 1995 and we grew our operation from 5 gallon buckets to a 20 barrel system.

 

We brewed our first beer on July 4, 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. We brewed three styles of beer and finished out that first year with 170 barrels sold. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.

 

After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

Another packed night at Scuttlebutt. if you are not here on Tuesday nights for trivia, you are missing out.

In the early part of the night PDRoE took a nice lead by doubling up in the first round and scoring a perfect score in the third round.

After the fourth round they held a five point lead of HLP and a six point lead over Suck it, Trebek!.

Not a lot would change in the next couple rounds, but wait until the final round.

In the seventh round is when the LOTR geekiness cam out of everybody. Five teams were able to name all nine characters that started the quest to Mount Doom and the other three teams named eight. The key was four teams doubled and one of them Suck it, Trebek!, that allowed them to pass PDRoE who also scored a perfect round but did not double. Congratulations.

I am excited to see this night getting bigger and bigger every week. I hope to see everybody again next week at the same time.

What a fantastic night at Scuttlebutt. We had a record crowd of 46 players. We might need to get more tables if this trend continues.

This was a high scoring affair with teams successfully doubling down all over the place.

The eventual winners which were first time players Jetty Island Jackelopes doubled down the last three rounds. The other first time team The Family doubled up in rounds 1,3 and 5.

This was a nip and tuck battle all they way to the last couple of rounds until some teams missed their double attempts and had to eat the ugly zero for the round.

I hope everybody had a great time, I know I love it when the house if packed and full of energy. Hope to see everybody again next week.

How good it feels to be back after all the snow and ice that hit us. Thank you QM Dave for running the show last week.

Woohoo, I was able to talk all the participating teams to register their teams, good luck this year and hopefully somebody will qualify for the Tournament of Champions.

Early on it looked like My Couch was going to run away with it but in the sixth round Suck it, Trebek! and PDRoE said the hell with that and double up.

In the end it was Suck it, Trebek! taking home the top honors.

Thank you to everybody who came out tonight and registered your teams. Also, Happy Birthday to Rey from Cornholio. We will see everybody and hopefully some new teams next week.
