17 teams gathered on this warm Wednesday night for a hefty game of trivia, duking it out through seven rounds.
From answering questions about the Spice Girls to naming the insurance companies corresponding to commercial clips (yes, the video round worked fantastically this week!), each team played with a great deal of heart.
As 90s hits wafted from the speakers, giving us a mix of N*Sync to Destiny's Child to 98 Degrees to Jesse McCartney, it was a consistently close game, with the choices for Double or Nothing causing ongoing fluctuations in the leaderboard -- and ultimately boiling down to the winners.
By the end of the night, Tried & Trivial snagged first place with 71 points as Bean Counters came right in second place, hot on their tail with 69 points, and Globo-Chem not only won the Drinking Round (guesstimating most closely the numbers for Spider-Man: Far from Home's Independence Day weekend six-day box office and its promotional marketing spend) but also managed to place third overall.
Honorable mentions go to Maltese Falcons for diligently returning their pens and offering a group hug on paper, Jue Bong for the correction when their team was mistakenly called Joe Borg throughout the first few initial rounds, It's Quizness Time for being "a team of boys who knew this much" about the Spice Girls, Isadora & Masher for conjuring up "The Star Must Go On" as the potential subtitle for Star Trek V, the member from Middle who was the only one to name the Delta blues from western Mississippi, and Cirque du so Gay for bringing so much energy!
What many answers lacked in correctness throughout the night, they more than made up for in creativity.
The best incorrect answer of the night had to be the one from Bean Counters, listing Sporty Spice's full name, first and last, as "Megan Rapinoe." After all, if Melanie Chisholm was the Sporty Spice of the 90s, it's safe to say that Megan Rapinoe is the unofficial Sporty Spice of the 2000s.
Wonderful job, everyone! Thank you for making it out.
Kudos from your friendly neighborhood Quizmaster Sanyee!
