After nearly two weeks of sweltering heat, we got a break tonight. The wonderful mid-70sF weather was accompanied by a lot of teams showing up for quiz and a good number wandering in and deciding to play for a round or three! Here's looking forward to cooler Autumn days ahead in...egads 2 more months. 😛
19 teams broke bread and beer tonight with Date Nights of the Round Table finally breaking away to best Gochu-gang (now I want Korean food). We had a tie for third, so launched the tiebreaker, which nearly itself ended in a tie. However, BIG MAAC was just a little closer to the correct number, so they took it over James.
Not to be left out, regulars Doodle Gang, who are usually in the prizes, ended up with the coveted You're Not the Worst certificate and booby prize. This is awarded to a team that plays the entire game and comes in 2nd to last. Their prize was a small yellow submarine toy that I believe can be used in the bath.
Here are the funny things that came out of your brains today:
We learned that Chrissy Tegan and Brenda Song were born in the same year. That made our Guess round a little brutal, as a lot of people were really confident about their knowledge of Thai-American actors. Tegan is only half Thai, and wasn't in a pile of Nickelodeon shows, which some teams soon realized to their chagrin.
I don't know what the divide was between teams who thought that their R2 Q1 picture was Ginger Grant (the correct answer) or Wilma Flinstone! Generational maybe? I'm not sure that I even know anyone who saw the LA Flinstones film though.
Every single team got the answers to two things right:
1) When asked about a Footloose actor who dressed up as a normal person for the day, all correctly answered: Kevin Bacon. However, I remain unconvinced that they could have cold-named a single other cast member. It's still a solid win.
2) We also all knew US Steel was the first $1B US company. It's a good thing, Pittsburghers tend to take offense at these sorts of things and would have had to ride them out of town on a rail (made by US Steel!)
Our most entertaining answers came from the connections round. The question asked what term a news outlet used for "men who cheat on their wives." If you slide your gaze toward the pictures to our left, you'll see the broad range of weird places their minds went, including the mind-boggling "upstanding citizen" and the fax no printer "Donald Trump."
Remind me, my Trivianistas, that starting the wrap-up doesn't *always* have to be about the weather. I promise I'll try harder next week. See you then, same bat time, same bat pub.
Until then, keep on quizzin'!
