Happy Wednesday from the Canterbury Ale House, where every Wednesday night at 7 o'clock, it's King Trivia Night!!! Tonight we welcomed 9 first-time teams and 3 returning teams with a collective of 45 players!!
Our teams for the night were, newcomers:
and returning teams:
With David and Joey slinging drinks behind the bar and Danny and Laticia serving up delicious food in the kitchen, we kicked off the night and got down to all things trivial!!
Right out of the gate, our reigning champs, The Knights of The Brown Table made an aggressive mark of their territory by going Double or Nothing in Round 2 and made an 11-point lead over the contending teams. But perhaps feeling a little too comfortable with their multi-week victories, the Knights preemptively guessed our mystery person in the Clue Round (Round 4) and earned themselves a -1 point denomination. Following suit in the Knight's brazen approach, newcomer team Much Ado About Canterbury also guessed our mystery individual incorrectly and were given a -1 point penalty.
However, the night was young and we still had 3 more rounds to go (all with Double or Nothing in play). Would the Knights prevail? Could they be dethroned?! Was the kitchen going to run out of chicken wings?!?!?! With uncertainty and egos aflame, we continued on....
In Round 5, another newcomer team Jenny Durkan's Missing Texts, nearly dethroned the Knights when they went Double or Nothing. Sadly, and moronically akin to those god damn missing texts, our newcomers' efforts did not pan out as they missed a single answer and were forced to take a zero for the round. But perhaps all was not lost, after all, we successfully solved the mystery of where all of Jenny Durkan's Missing Texts had been hiding all this time: lost in time, lost in space; getting sloshed and perpetually forgetting to hit the send button at the Canterbury Ale House!
In the second to last round for the night, 5 teams went balls to the wall, opting to go Double or Nothing! Of those 5 valiant teams, were 3 first-time players: Yes We CANturbury, FR3, and Scott's Tots. Feeling the pressure to perform and fighting to the end, our 2 returning champions: Knights of The Brown Table and The Braintrust hedged their bets as well. Would it pay off?! YES IT WOULD!!!! All five teams that went Double or Nothing in Round 6 successfully answered the round's 10 questions and each respectively earned themselves 20 points!
Leading into our final round of the night, our teams were scored as followed,
The newcomers:
and our returning teams:
The Knights seemed a shoe-in to once again take home the crown and first place bragging rights. However, the kitchen HAD run out of chicken wings and the contending teams, fueled by a vicious, mob-forming, hangry rage, refused to go home without a fight to the death!!
Putting it all on the line, 6 teams went Double or Nothing in our final round: The Braintrust, The Red Raccoons, The Knights of the Brown Table, RIP Freddie from School of Rock, My Drinking Team Has a Trivia Problem, and Team 510.
Well readers, for 4 of the 6 teams who went Double or Nothing, fortune smiled upon them and they each respectively earned themselves 20-points! Unbelievably, and most painfully, our reigning champs The Knights were not in the company of the fortunate four. But being gracious and sovereign rulers, The Knights relinquished the throne and thus ended their dynasty!
With a grand total of 64-points, The Braintrust claimed first place and proudly donned the crown as the night’s King Trivia Champions. But whom, amongst the valiant 11 contending teams would claim the second place prize?! Well readers, coming out of our final round, Double or Nothing free-for-all, three teams were tied for second place and entered an instant death tiebreaker!!
FR3, RIP Freddie from School of Rock, and The Red Raccoons vied for the second place crown, being asked the ridiculously ambiguous question of “How much did the movie Goodfellas gross in the opening weekend in the USA?”
Hilariously, our three tied teams had highly optimistic opinions of the movie, each guessing the movie grossed $14 million, $17 million, and $12 million respectively. However, there could only be one second-place team, and with the closest approximation to the correct answer of $6,368,901, The Red Raccoons triumphantly claimed second place with their answer of $12 million!!
With the game finally at an end, the victors crowned, and the amazing staff of the Canterbury Ale House safe from a violent, uproarious chicken-wing craving mob, yours truly closed the night.
Until next week players, this has been Ms. WestleeBee as emcee. Good night and good luck. Xo.
