Truly, truly, it is hard for this humble host to convey just the sheer amount of emotions being felt after last night's incredible showing. There is such a wide range, swinging from happiness and relief, to abject sadness and emptiness. Having hosted at Hyperion Public for more than 5 years now, it is hard to leave behind not just the fun and familiarity of the venue, but each and every friendship made along the way.
Heather and Carissa I met while hosting at the Pizza Press in Pasadena in 2017. After that venue stopped, they migrated to HP where they've become great friends with me and my wife. Matt and Blair come over for dinners and Jason and I go to concerts. Toni and I email embarassing childhood photos and talk about musicals. Sonja brought in two teams worth of players, who I now see at monthly all-night movie marations. Jordan, Tanner, James and I make a fearsome foursome on the golf course. Joey and Lindsay and I love to have drinks at the Tonga Hut. Eden and Nick share tips about child rearing. All of them are invested and excited to hear about how my wife Emily is doing and how fast the baby has been growing. The list of people who make a daily impact on my life could go on and on, and so could my love for all of them.
It's extraordinarily challenging to make friends as an adult. A weekly trivia game is the perfect venue to not only strengthen current friendships within a team, but to form new ones with rival teams. It's been amazing to watch people branch outside of their tables to the teams nearby and create their own relationships. As a social butterfly myself, its etremely gratifying to watch.
Of course there were winners and losers last night, but obviously no one has won as much as I have. I have gained dozens of solid friendships to take home with me as prizes, and hundreds more memories to put on my shelf. I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the wonderful people who came out to play, the kind and helpful staff of Hyperion Public, and everyone else who supported me along the way. And just because I'm moving doesn't mean I'm moving on. I'll gladly come back to play at HP with any and all of my old friends and plenty of new ones. So long and thanks for all the fish!
