Double-or-Nothing can make you or break you. This week, it broke a lot of hearts. 🙁
With tonight's Round 1, teams started strong showing off their general knowledge skills and nearly completely nailing questions ranging across country music star hygiene practices to the latest and greatest in fast-food popup hotel resorts. But it was Flag Hags who lept out to an impressive lead, getting all six answers right and opting to Double-or-Nothing for a total of 12 points.
Round 2 proved to be much more difficult for teams as they needed to know the exact names of 8 different animated (film, tv and video game) characters. Lime Skittles came the closest to perfection, getting seven of the eight correct!
"Popping" on to Round 3, the questions or answers of this round had a "pop" theme. Due to a lack of K-Pop wisdom at the Lumber Yard, newcomers Penetrative Friends were burned on their first try at Double-or-Nothing and failed to collect any points for the round. We also welcomed a late entry, B-Squared to the game who snagged four points in their first round.
Switching gears for Round 4, teams needed to identify a famous thing, this time around, rather than a specific person. After the first round of clues, for 10 possible points, both Lime Skittles and Penetrative Friends submitted their answer. But sadly, I wasn't describing Schindler's List. Flag Hags waited until the 8 point clues before turning in their guess, and Vince continued to show how waiting can pay off in this round - submitting the correct answer, Pulp Fiction for 4 points.
We headed to the tropics for Round 5 with questions yielding answers with an island theme. B-Squared, hoping to make up for not catching rounds one and 2 checked the Double-or-Nothing box, but missed after getting one of the answers incorrect.
Round 6 again showed that Double-or-Nothing can be a fickle friend. Connecting the characters with the film they narrated proved to be an easy feat for the Flag Hags and Vince, who scored 9 points. But Lime Skittles couldn't find all the right matches after checking the Double-or-Nothing box, and got zero for the round.
Flag Hags held their lead going into the final round, but there was still a chance a few different teams could get all 10 of the possible answers correct and double-up to finish the night on top. Unfortunately, no team could name 10 of the top 11 countries with the largest Islamic populations. And while the end of the game meant we had clear 1st and 2nd place finishers, Lime Skittles and Penetrative Friends found themselves in a tie for 3rd.
Penetrative Friends and Lime Skittles faced-off in a winner-takes-third battle. In the end, the team who correctly guessed the population of the state of Texas, according to the 1990 census, (Price is Right style, closest without going over) was Penetrative Friends!
So there we had it - Flag Hags reclaimed the top spot this week with a total of 57 points. Vince, finished in 2nd with 36 points. And Penetrative Friends finished with 34+the tie breaker.
Thanks for another awesome night, Lumber Yard friends. See ya'll next week - same time, same place!
