QUIZ RECAP
Let's take a little walk down memory lane... It was my first time ever hosting trivia. I was nervous. Sweating. My friends, coworkers and even dad came out to support me at my King Trivia debut. I'd been through the training and was ready to read, lead, score, repeat.
When it came time to read the teams' scores as I'd trained to do, Team #11344, better known as "I Lost My Virginity At..." obviously stuck out. My dad was in the audience so I thought to my self "nope, not going to fall for that team name!" I delivered each team's name and point total. When it came to "I Lost My Virginity At," I recall I said "I Lost My Virginity At...you guys have XX". Breaking up the potentially embarrassing sentence, I thought I'd avoided any awkward moments...
Well, I avoided the publicly awkward moments, but was then confronted by a redhead named Chris. He approached me and asked, "can you just deliver the team name and score like you're supposed to?" Needing everyone in the room to like me, I said, " uh, ok." On the next score reading, I said "I Lost My Virginity At XX...sorry, dad!" The crowd laughed, and so did my dad. Phew!
After that tense moment with Chris, we cooled off and it was smooth sailing. I came to befriend Chris and his teammates, and look forward to their regular attendance at The Dudes every Thursday.
Unfortunately, however, tonight was Chris's final trivia at The Dudes as he's packing his bags and moving to NYC. As a trivia regular, my French translator and one of the team's top players, I dedicate this trivia recap to him.
After a monster game scoring 92 POINTS, I was able to catch up with Chris for a brief VIP interview as he bid his final farewells to his teammates and friends at The Dudes.
Chris has been a regular at trivia at The Dudes for about seven months. His teammate Jake remarked that the team, however, has been around for probably five years!
Chris said he loves trivia because it's the one time a week he gets to hang out with his best friends, no matter what else is going on.
When asked about what he thought of his team's name, he said, "It's the best trivia name I've ever heard. I'm happy to be a part of it."
Seven months of trivia and surely innumerable memories, I asked Chris if he has a highlight that stand out above the rest. He pondered briefly and was pleased to reveal that it was when he was the first to correctly name the past six Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants in order. (I was honored as that was my Drinking Round question. That was a highlight for me, too!) No one that evening expected a team of all guys to get that answer right, and in just a matter of mere seconds, no less! Truly unforgettable for those in attendance.
As our interview came to a close, our guest of honor reflected on what he'll miss most. He shared that he'll miss the Quizmaster and the camaraderie the most. His words, not mine!
In summary, Chris shared trivia is all about the friendships.
As he makes his way back to the Big Apple, I asked if he'll look to join a trivia team out there. He said, "I'm interested in becoming a Quizmaster. I won't find as a great a team, but I want to pay it forward."
Well, Chris, Thursdays at The Dudes won't be the same without you, but we'll try! Cheers and good luck in NYC!
