The Lion & Crown Pub, an English-style pub with a large and varied menu, is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. serving lunch, dinner and daily specials. The pub also offers a wide selection of fine wines and 38 beers on tap. Guests can watch sporting events on one of the many large TV screens or enjoy a nice night out on the patio. Different drink specials are available every day and live music on Friday and Saturday.
Wow! What a crazy night at the Lion & Crown in Allen last night! Kito, one of the bar keeps,
is on the same diet as Quizmaster Lou, so we commiserated over the absence of beer in our lives.
Beer is, after all, one of G-d's gifts to mankind. Well, you know the saying, "Misery loves
company"? This Quizmaster believes it should be "Misery loves beer"!
It was a terrific quiz. You know, quizzes can be like mirrors. You are what you know. Or,
what you don't know. You know? For example, Round Two's Identify the Supermodel could be
seen as an interesting Rorschach on how different people perceive beauty. Now, QM Lou makes
no judgements, casts no aspersions. All I'm saying is, there are those who really KNEW their
supermodels' names, and those who didn't. And those who didn't put down Twiggy for an answer!
But I digress...
The Find-the-Connection round was especially daunting to those who never watched the Soprano's.
The most fielded question was what did Pussy Cat have to do with it? Wiki-Soprano's provided
the answer. Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero. Look it up.
I think Round Seven provided the most mirth, though. A welcome change from the usual sports or
census statistics, this one focused on some basic science. Specifically, NASA's labelling of
the 6 main layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Boy, the combined struggling of minds trying to
come up with those spheres must have equaled the power of the gas company's annual output!
Here are the best wrong guesses:
Ozone - Missing.
Lithosphere - Layer where lithographs were once produced.
Hypersphere - Where the air is so thin, you have to hyperventilate.
Shakespeare - A lofty, literary realm.
Purgatory - Dante got the location wrong.
Pearly Gates - Really, really, really way up there...
Resident champs, the Ninja Turtles, got back into their groove by Double-or-Nothing their way
into first place ranking 20 points away from everyone else! Watch their dust. Stealth Texas
crept into second while Pickles on a Plate just barely beat out the Hilltoppers for third.
