QUIZ RECAP

Like moths to a light bulb they came!  I thought we were going 

to play with seven teams.  Then it became eight!  Then the FNG's 

and Velvet Hammered showed up and it was ten!  Then newbie 

Team Loco joined in and it was eleven!  Because our King Trivia 

Pub Quiz goes to eleven...  Apologies to Nigel Tufnel.  

The frivolity continued for at least one more Thursday at the 

Lion & Crown in Watters Creek with Quiz Master Lou holding 

court from the stage with the help of a table and four chairs. 

(You know, I like that set up...) A big welcome back to long 

absent friends the Hilltoppers, who started off strong and 

held the lead early but slipped to fourth place as the night 

wore on.  Lots 'o newbies joined in, including the clan that 

styled themselves Colorful Kitties, the cool hipsters, Two Rows, 

a couple of smarties who went with the topical Birds Aren't 

Real and a boisterous gang of joyfuls who insisted on the dubious 

moniker of It's Only Gay if You Push Back!  (Hence forth, QM 

Lou referred to them as It's Only for the remainder of the 

evening.)  

Returning regs the Bumble Bees buzzed into a glorious first 

place win.  The Rockefellers established a hard won second 

while Sanitize or Die sprang into third with a Sixth Round 

Double-or-Nothing that catapulted them over the heads of their 

rivals, thus becoming the dark horse in the race! 

As usual, our quiz writing overlords provided grist for mill 

of mirth as style points got awarded to funniest non-answers 

of the evening.  Regarding Mariah Carey's Yuletide hit, one 

wag didn't know the title so resolved with "That annoying one 

she can't hit the notes with."  (Poor Mariah)  Someone else 

confused the syndicated comic Family Circus with Monty Python 

and identified it as Flying Circle!?!  And finally, is it really 

possible to mistake Benedict Cumberbatch for Rowan Atkinson?  

Just think of how The Imitation Game or Doctor Strange would've 

turned out if played by Mr. Bean.  I ask you...
