I can't believe you missed it
Massive night at 619 this Wednesday. Ten teams competed for the honor of the "smarty pants" title. The place was packed, the crowd was loud, the joke round was raunchy, and the beer was flowing (which made some of the answers quite hilarious). This was the night to take your chance.
We just came in for a drink
In fact, the winning team only stopped in for a drink and decided to give it a shot. Not only did they win it all, but they had the best-darned name of the season so far: Quiz in My Pants.
That could have been you with the punny name and the title free drinks.
It wasn't lonely at the top
It took the final round to decide a winner. Again, I have to tell you this could have been your night. Going into the final round the top 6 teams were only separated by a couple of points. It was anyone's game. If you'd known your densely populated states, you could have swept the field.
Don't miss it next week. The jokes keep getting funnier. The names keep getting more outrageous. The friendly banter keeps getting raunchier. AND it's getting tougher to save you a seat with all these new teams.
Put it on your calendar. I'll see you next week!

Our family is growing
Each week a new team shows up to challenge our champions, we talk some unknowing bystander into the best damned night ever, or a regular team adds friends.
It happened again this week. Some of our regulars couldn't make it, but our family grew. Last week we had a regular King Trivia player - Solo Anarchy - stumble in just to "check it out". He returned with reinforcements and Solo became Triple.
Also, last week, we talked a group of innocent bystanders into giving trivia a try. This week one of Vegan Donut's players was already there saving seats an hour before game time! She was bringing coworkers tonight.
And because she had so much fun last week, we were able to cajole a group of people out for some "team-building" into putting away Cards Against Humanity and joining the action.
Welcome to the family, Dam Mad.
It's always good to have an "ace" up your sleeve
From the outset, Dam Mad proved to be a worthy competitor. All four teams (Our champs, Handful of Penne, were in house too) stayed within a point or two of each other.
There was no sign of a clear winner through the first SIX rounds. Only a few points separated the teams. Handful looked poised to take home the title again this week. They were atop the leaderboard at the start of round 7 and the category was "sports". They know their sports, folks.
Wouldn't you know it, Solo's team captain was a sports FAN.AT.IC! He "aced" the round all on his own to edge past the champs.
Our newcomers felt their team-building was worth it. They took home third. Vegan Donuts promised to be back next week, but only if I brought DJ Coop. (he had soccer tryouts)
It was another great night of funny stories, "you had to be there moments" (pink mullets, wild NSFW sweaters), and a joke round that cannot be posted online. You just need to come next week to hear how good our jokes are!
Congrats to Solo Anarchy...who's got next?

Showdown at 619
He sidled in well before the maddening crowd arrived, oozing confidence. Finding a spot near the Quizmaster, he pulled out a notebook and pen and carefully placed them on the table. He was methodical, intentional, and here for one thing: take down the defending champs.
His team name is SOLO Anarchy. He played alone tonight. He is a veteran player who plays several nights a week and he takes his game seriously.
He'd heard there was a new Sherrif of 619 and he came to challenge their authority.
The Team Bus must have been late
A handful of Penne always showed up in force. They each brought a different skill to the game. Tonight was different. The game started with only two of the usual 8, leaving the door open for SOLO and Powdered Donuts challenge early.
Through three rounds, only 2 points separated the top three teams, and Handful was still missing a player or two. It looked like the newcomers had ambushed the defending champs at the 619.
Better Late then never
The rest of Handful rolled in at the end of round three. They came to play. Donuts and Anarchy never stood a chance. Like reinforcements, they pinned the newcomers down in rounds 4,5,6 and widened the gap to 7 and 10 points over Anarchy and Donuts.
Heading into the final round, Handful had recovered from the early ambush and were on their way to another win. They knew their U2 albums, and the challengers went down shooting blanks.
When the dust settled the final score was Handful 48, Anarchy 38, and Donuts 31 (risking a double or nothing and coming up short).
Solid Joke Round Too
We had a solid joke round this week, too. As always, the music was on point from DJ Coop, the jokes were hysterical, and the "throwaway answers" were absolutely hilarious. Like we always say at 619, "if you don't know the answer, at least make us laugh".
I have a feeling this is not the last showdown. I have a feeling there will be other ambushes as we near the Tournament of Champions. Will you dare enter the 619 and take your shot?
