About Scuttlebutt Taproom & Brewery

 

Founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996, the idea started as a homebrewing kit for Father’s Day 1990. As thoughtful as the gift was, it was also a source of strife – Scuttle wanted to use the kitchen for preparing meals for the family while Phil was crowding her out in favor of homemade beer. To maintain marital bliss we decided to move out of the kitchen and into a larger operation. A business plan was established in 1995 and we grew our operation from 5 gallon buckets to a 20 barrel system.

 

We brewed our first beer on July 4, 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. We brewed three styles of beer and finished out that first year with 170 barrels sold. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.

 

After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

What a great night of drinking beer and playing trivia tonight at Scuttlebutt Taproom. Three of the four teams that played tonight held the lead at one point and all teams at one point in the night were in last place.

The first team to hold the lead was The Leftovers after scoring 5 in round 1. The last place teams were Emily Sucks and The Bartops.

The second team to take the lead was The Bartops after successfully doubling in round 2. This left Emily Sucks in last place all alone.

The next time the lead changed was after round five when Emily Sucks stormed back to tie The Bartops. This left My Couch Pulls Out as the third team to hold the bottom spot.

Round 6 had Emily Sucks take the solo lead with The Bartops and The Leftovers unsuccessfully doubling up. My Couch Pulls Out was successful doubling and jumped into second. This left The Leftovers in last place.

The standings would remain the same after round 7 and congratulations go to Emily Sucks.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play. A special thanks to Jen for bringing Chewbacca to hang out with us. We will wee everybody again next week.

W and tuck all night. Going into the final round there was one point separating the top three teams.

In the end PDRoE came out on top. My Couch Pulls Out edged out The Leftovers second place.

What an exciting night of trivia. With only three teams playing that means 67% of the teams will get paid.

From the beginning it was established that The Leftovers were going to come out on top. They were never in jeopardy of losing the top spot. The battle remained between Llama Cadavra & Shrek.

After three rounds the two teams were tied. In the fourth round Llama Cadavra decided not to guess and take their zero points but that move put them into second since Shrek guessed incorrectly.

Round 5 had the teams flip flop and that stayed the same after round 6.

In round 7 Llama Cadavra was able to catch Shrek and force the intense tie breaker. How many pairs of ribs does an Indian Elephant have? Llama Cadavra says 7, Shrek says 13. The answer is 19 and congratulations to Shrek. Llama Cadavra must have thought Indian meant miniature.
