Well now, THAT was exciting!
We gathered, as is our custom, to engage in our weekly competition of trivia expertise once again at The Famous on Brand in Glendale. Ans while we've come to accept the fact that the quizzers who populate this event are a truly competitive, adept and knowledgeable crew, last night's session was one for the books!
Why is that, you might ask? Because when the dust settled, we had a three-way tie at the top of the scoreboard! That's right, Fartin' Sheen, Still No Woodford and You're a Quizzard, Harry all finished regulation play with identical scores of 67 points!
And while a near-impossible tie-breaking question produced the final result indicated in our scoreboard, all three teams are champions in this humble quizmaster's book! Congratulations, teams! See ya next week.

Ah, the start of a new year! And the energized crowd helped us launch 2019 in fine fashion last night with a very competitive round of trivia excellence at The Famous on Brand in Glendale! The lead changed hands after each round, which is always a strong sign of anyone-can-win competitiveness. And, as usual, it all came down to the well-played double-or-nothing move.
Look... can we all agree that the strategic employment of the D-or-N option is often the crucial difference between finishing in the top three "winners circle" or being on the outside looking in? We can all agree on that, can't we?
Take, for example, the two smug-looking guys in photo #1. They're part of the formidable team known as Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink. (The rest of the team is in photo #9. Don't ask me why I separated 'em like that. It's just how it worked out, okay!?)
Anyway, BJWLUD doubled successfully in the final three rounds to vault themselves to the front of the pack after what had been a fairly lackluster performance up to that point! Amazing! Perhaps that's why they finished this year's League Play in the top 100! (Hence the well-earned smugness, I suppose.)
But, on the other hand, consider the cautionary tale of The Blanches (photo #2), three of my favorite players (well, two last night, but still...) who finished the game with a very respectable 55 points. Now 55 points is a darn good score, and nothing to be ashamed of. Still, they left points on the table, in a manner of speaking, by answering every question correctly in rounds 1, 3 and 5 but opted not to double on any of those rounds - thereby surrendering 22 additional points.
The lesson here is, timidity can hurtcha! On the other hand, boldness can hurtcha too, if ya end up holding the "nothing stick." So, my advice? Come on out and join us at The Famous next week, and double the fun in your life!
