QUIZ RECAP

Huuuggee shoutout to Quizmaster Lou for running the show last week. What a guy! The staff at Lion n Crown is top notch and helping to make a great show experience on Thanksgiving is an attest to that!

Know what else we learned this week? Double or nothing will make or break you, folks! Both the top two teams and bottom two teams (as well as a few in the middle) were products of their gamble. Some teams tried, and failed, several times for that double but alas, this wasn't the week for them. Will it pay of next week? Tune in and find out!

Hello, all!  Quiz Master Lou stepping in for Christian this week at the Lion & Crown Pub in Addison, Texas, on Thanksgiving Day.  (Even Quiz Masters need time off for the holidays.)  Thanksgiving can be a strange time of year, you know.  We all know about the dark side of holidays.  While most people get caught up in the festive mood that is customary for this time of year, some folks feel the opposite.  It is usually due to loneliness.  Loneliness can be because of a lack of family and/or friends.  It can be because you happen to be new in town and don’t know anyone.  Some people can be lonely just because they have trouble relating to others; The so called, fish-out-of-water syndrome.  All of us at one time in our lives have been lonely in a room full of people. 

 So it was, that when I arrived at the L&C – Addison, there were less than a dozen people in the pub.  Most of them were seated at the bar, their shoulders sloped, heads down, contemplating their libations.  A smattering of customers sat outside on the patio.  After consulting with one of the Zachary’s (there are two at the L&C – don’t ask…), it was ascertained that none of the regular teams had shown up.  (Even Quiz Teams need time off for the holidays.)  I could see I had my work cut out for me.  If these souls were going to spend their Thanksgiving at a bar, I was going to make sure they had fun! 

It took a bit of arm twisting and cajoling, but QM Lou finally managed to muster five teams.  (Which later turned into six, when a couple of guys dropped in and wanted to play, even though they missed the first two rounds!)  Two of the teams were solo, two were couples and two were threesomes.  What was a silent night in a bar, with only the drone of the ball game coming over the telescreen, had turned into a raucous, focused trivia contest with laughter, groans and participation.  Prizes were awarded, pictures taken and smiles on faces appeared.  Quiz Master Lou quietly sneaked out afterwards.  My job was done, there.

Team name of the week has GOT to go to the How I Met Your Mother tribute! I half expected someone to get up halfway through tonight's show and slap a teammate, but no players were harmed in the making of this weeks episode. We had a few new comers, who are always welcome in our watering hole, we hope they return!
