QUIZ RECAP

Wow! Excitement at Killarney's last night! First of all, big congrats to the
newbies (no longer) the Dallas Boolers Club, who pulled off an amazing sixth
round Double-or-Nothing (Millennials and video games, go figure) to leap frog
into a first place win! But that not's all, folks! We had a three-way tie
for second place! This made the tie breaker a tiered competition. Whichever
team got closest to the number (grams of sugar in a soft drink) without going
over got second place, the next closest would get third and so on. Surprise,
surprise, surprise, Sergeant! The two teams that got closest guessed the
exact same number! This called for yet another tie breaker. Quiz Master Lou
yanked a number out of his hat, an ancient bit of lore he remembered from a
souvenir coin acquired from the gift shop of a lodge in Wyoming decades ago,
which purported to give the height of the Grand Teton mountains. Time and
revisionism have swept away any semblance of accuracy of that measurement, but
we had a number to guess at and a witness to validate it, so the estimate was
legit. IFFY! won the race and Seal Team 3 demurred into Third!

Another great question set from the KTPQ quiz writers. The Picture round was
innovative (lab equipment) and the Guess Where round creatively deceptive. QM
Lou's fave was the Round Three theme round, only on account of I'm a Greek
Mythology geek myself. Style points to the team that guessed Chiron's name
was Phil, but even more style points awarded to Pickles on a Plate who offered
Newt. Newt was the centaur character from the old, old, Trans-Lux cartoon
series, Hercules. Hercules, the cartoon, was an animated programmer for kids
way back when, which sort of, kind of got into the Greek mythology thing by
re-inventing ole Herc into a Hellenic super hero. (He was drawn to look
suspiciously like Clark Kent! Uh, without the glasses...) You can check out the
old cartoons on YouTube if you're interested. The theme song was sung by the
late, great Johnny Nash of I Can See Clearly Now fame. Enjoy!
