"Last night I said these words to my teams,"
"This song is not really what it seems," - with apologies to the Fab Four.
The question was, "What popular foursome's debut album was titled Please Please Me?" Now, I knew the oldsters would get it a little too easily, so Quiz Master Lou read it, "What popular foursome's debut album was titled 'PLEASE (pause, one two...) Please Me?" Well, it didn't quite work. I only fooled one team. But what really threw them (and me) was that when I read the answer, I confessed my ploy then sang the phrase from the song. The only problem was, instead of singing the refrain, "Please please me, oh yeah, like I please you," Quiz Master Lou sang "Won't you Please please please me, please me, please meeee, yeah!" to the tune of Help! The fact that no one said anything to me about it afterwards indicates that either I got away with it, or the audience sort of ignored old Lou's senile dementia. (sigh)
The pub quiz at Shakertin's was quietly intense and subtlty dramatic. Bar Guy had been leading all night with a successful Double-or-Nothing out of the gate, while Deadly Alliance and Wossa-Matta-U had been tied for second place three rounds running. Then Boom! Bar Guy failed a DoN in Round Six while the aforementioned DA and W-M-U succeeded! Both teams surpassed Bar Guy and were tied for first place! W-M-U scooted to victory by one point. End of drama. Newbie duo The Avengers placed last, had fun and looked cute all evening. I hope they return.
QM Lou saying, "All the best!" Until next week!
