Just as the cool breeze that provided a brief respite from this hot, hot summer, so too, did our weekly King Trivia Pub Quiz provide reprieve from the doldrums of the constant, socio-media  bombardment that now defines our society.

Amazingly undermanned and spectacularly smart, One Left in the Chamber continued to dominate the winner's circle and perhaps redefine Key Players with a fantastic first place win, outdistancing their rivals by a twenty-plus point lead!  But the real drama occurred with a 7th Round tie betwixt Deadly Alliance and Pickles on a Plate.  The former won the tie breaker over the latter by more closely guessing the number of miles of Alaskan coastline.

And now, in closing, I bid you my usual felicitations for the coming  week; However, I must depart from routine by informing my readers that Shakertin's has decided to cease hosting King Trivia Pub Quiz.  Quiz Master Lou must say, "Bye for now!"  But continue to check in on KT's webpage, Facebook and elsewhere in the Plano and surrounding areas for the next incarnation.  Never retreat!  Never surrender!

Shakertin's provided the place and King Trivia provided the quiz as per our usual on Tuesday night.

One Left in the Chamber amazed and delighted with a Chariots of Fire moment when they tripped and fell right out of the gate with a failed Double-or-Nothing in Round One; Yet, they recovered with a successful DoN in Round Two, shot into second place, then doubled again in Round Five to first place where they stayed to the end!  Wow!  Nitty Knockers knitted themselves into a respectable second place win while Deadly Alliance managed a decline from first to third place with a modicum of dignity.

The Dog Whisperers remained quietly in fourth and kudos to to newbies Pega, who played pool and Trivia simultaneously and decided that KTPQ can be as tough to strategize as a triple bank shot, but they enjoyed themselves nonetheless and vowed to make it a return date!

Hats off to Kevin behind the bar who delivered prize cards promptly and also to our quiz writers for another excellent Q-set!  The Picture Round of identifying the Towers and the Theme Round's Hollywood, Squares, and Hollywood Squares were especially creative!

Dasvidaniya, tovarishchi!  Quiz Master Lou signing off...

July is winding down and with it, we hope, the scorching temperatures that have boiled, baked and barbequed us.  Nevertheless, King Trivia at Shakertin's continues to expand (like hot gasses?) and the pub crowd persists in growing (like a greenhouse culture?) as table space dwindles on Tuesday nights, being mostly monopoloized by the pub quiz patrons!

Pickles on a Plate, performing practically perfectly yet again for the fourth week in a row.  They've been in the winner's circle solidly for the past month, usually in first place and last night was no exception.  The only reason it's not the sixth week in a row is because they didn't show up one week.  Second place fell to newbie team STLBL (St. Louis Bud Lites) hailing all the way from Missouri.  With an amazing comeback in the last two rounds, they rallied and moved from fifth place to second with the deadly Double-or-Nothing.  It was definitely a matter of questions in the wheelhouse.  One Left in the Chamber shot their wad for a third place bid, underperforming only slightly without their team captain and data bank brain, Eric.  Honorable mentions to Deadly Alliance, Bumble Bees and the Nitty Knockers!

Our most outrageous style points were awarded to the team that guessed that Nazis and not the Girl Scouts of America had to resort to selling calendars instead of cookies during WWII due to shortages!  Kudos to our quiz writers for some exceptionally clever question sets this week. The Applied Mathematics Theme Round was inspired.  Guess What was also fun and the Find the Connection Round particularly rewarding.

Quiz Master Lou hopes heartily to see you next week!
