July is winding down and with it, we hope, the scorching temperatures that have boiled, baked and barbequed us. Nevertheless, King Trivia at Shakertin's continues to expand (like hot gasses?) and the pub crowd persists in growing (like a greenhouse culture?) as table space dwindles on Tuesday nights, being mostly monopoloized by the pub quiz patrons!
Pickles on a Plate, performing practically perfectly yet again for the fourth week in a row. They've been in the winner's circle solidly for the past month, usually in first place and last night was no exception. The only reason it's not the sixth week in a row is because they didn't show up one week. Second place fell to newbie team STLBL (St. Louis Bud Lites) hailing all the way from Missouri. With an amazing comeback in the last two rounds, they rallied and moved from fifth place to second with the deadly Double-or-Nothing. It was definitely a matter of questions in the wheelhouse. One Left in the Chamber shot their wad for a third place bid, underperforming only slightly without their team captain and data bank brain, Eric. Honorable mentions to Deadly Alliance, Bumble Bees and the Nitty Knockers!
Our most outrageous style points were awarded to the team that guessed that Nazis and not the Girl Scouts of America had to resort to selling calendars instead of cookies during WWII due to shortages! Kudos to our quiz writers for some exceptionally clever question sets this week. The Applied Mathematics Theme Round was inspired. Guess What was also fun and the Find the Connection Round particularly rewarding.
Quiz Master Lou hopes heartily to see you next week!
