QUIZ RECAP

Last night we had 15 teams that braved the cold and came out to Brouwerji West for some trivia! Not only was the weather a little nasty, but the trivia questions proved to be challenging throughout the night as well! We had very few teams double or nothing throughout the night, however, Counter Intelligence doubled on round three putting them ahead of everyone else for the rest of the night. However, Uncomfortably Dumb made a successful double in the 5th round which tied them up with Counter Intelligence, but Counter pulled ahead just enough to take first place only by ONE point leaving Uncomfortably Dumb a valiant second place! Hey You Beer Me claimed third especially after their successful double in round 6.

It was a pleasure subbing at Brouwerji and thank you to all those teams who came out to Brouwerij West and trudged through that LA 50 degree weather. Burrrr!

QUIZ RECAP

The thing about trivia is that it is super hit or miss. Either teams know it and they don't, and this week was key example of that. Some of the rounds were very specific, such as a theme round about arcade games. It turned out that teams either struggled to come up with a single answer or they did great and knocked it out of the park. The teams that consistently knocked it out of the park this week were Counter Intelligence and Test Tickles who were neck and neck until the very end. It took until round 6 for Counter Intelligence to gain a secure first place lead that they were able to keep until the end. Test Tickles did give them a run for their money as they slid into second. In third, was Pacific Coast Dog, who as usual made a comeback midway through the game in order to place. The good news about the hit or miss nature of trivia is that any week could be the week where your team hits it out of the park.

I never thought this day would come, but I finally found a subject that baffled the trivia masters at Brouwerij West: U2. Who would have thought that the announcement of 2 simple characters, a letter and a number could create such an uproar, but when I announced that round 7 was about naming U2 albums the effect on the crowd was striking. The teams that were leading the game began panicking, wishing they could call up Bono and ask for an assist. To be fair, there were a select few teams that did very well on Round 7, but as a whole, this was the most I've ever seen a crowd struggle with a round. When all was said and done this was my favorite round that King Trivia has ever done, not because I like U2, but because I loved all of the creative answers that people put when they didn't know what else to do. Beer Gutz, the team that was in first place, literally just wrote me a note about how much they hated Bono instead of naming any albums. Amazingly, in spite of 0 points in the final round, Beer Gutz still landed in first place. What makes Beer Gutz accomplishment even more impressive is that it was a team of only two people. We had a tie for second place between Counter Intelligence and Pacific Coast Dog. Counter Intelligence won the tie breaker putting them in second and putting Pacific Coast Dog. In reality though, the competition was far less significant than the bonding that went on in Brouwerij West this week as teams united in a collective distaste for U2.
