About Hops & Scotch

Whisk(e)y originates from Gaelic for “water of life”. According to author David Broom, the Scots and Irish Gaelic translation of this is uisge beatha. This referred to a proto-whisk(e)y redistilled with spices and herbs and the straight version became known as 'usky'."

Now is it Whiskey or Whisky? In short, the spelling "whiskey" is common in the United States and Ireland. The rest of the world, including Japan, Scotland and Canada, uses "whisky."

Bourbon, Rye, Single Malts, Blends - they're all whisk(e)y. There is no one right way to drink all whisk(e)ys. Whether you drink it neat or on the rocks, whisk(e)y is one of America's most beloved spirits.  Enjoying this beverage is a personal journey that could easily change from week to week, day to day, drink to drink.

You'll find that many whisk(e)ys are greatly enhanced by ice, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least try the whiskey neat. Have you tried your Scotch with a few drops of mineral water?  A splash of water can be a great thing as it releases the hydrophobic elements in the glass, allowing you to detect more aromatics on the nose, and by lowering the alcohol content, it can allow you to taste more flavors on your palate.

Tonight’s King Trivia was filled with excitement, especially with Clorox’s impressive late-game surge to claim third place with 48 points. Pops put up a strong fight, finishing just behind with 47, but Clorox’s momentum proved unstoppable in the end! 🎉

 

The Margarita Mommies dominated the leaderboard, finishing first with 63 points, while the Bumble Bees buzzed their way to second with 50 points. 🍹🐝

 

The Nerd Herd held steady in fifth with 41 points, while The Einstein + Back Up Is On The Way followed closely with 37. Team Roasted and Bravolebrities rounded out the game with 28 and 19 points, respectively.

Tonight’s King Trivia saw an exciting game with new faces, intense competition, and a surprise return! The Answering Machine made a comeback after a hiatus, storming their way to first place with an impressive 74 points. 🎉

 

Mipha and the Cat Ladies gave them a run for their money, finishing close behind in second with 70 points after a strong performance. 🐾 ShimmyFoo secured third with a solid 48 points, keeping the pressure on the top teams.

 

In the middle of the pack, Amphibia Trivia and Bumble Bees battled it out, ending with 29 and 28 points respectively. Aegis Grampas stayed steady with 23 points, while EJ LC wrapped up with 20.

 

The Banana Hammocks split their efforts across two teams, scoring 19 and 10 points. Pops finished with 18, and Late Bloomers closed out the game with 12 points.

Tonight’s King Trivia was packed with action, laughs, and costumes! The top three teams didn’t just bring the knowledge—they brought the style, too. Mipha and the Cat Ladies, who snagged first place with 51 points, came dressed for success. Margarita Mommies got extra points for creativity, coming in second with 44 points while hilariously dressed as their host, Aaron! 🍹 BumbleBees buzzed into third with 28 points, rounding out a top trio that knew how to celebrate Halloween spirit. 🎃

 

The Night Shifters and Indythedog were neck and neck all evening, each finishing with a solid 20 points in fourth. DANG hung in there and wrapped up with 18, while Pops and Ghost tied at 14 points, showing some resilience. NSP finished with 10 points, putting in a strong effort, and Aegis Grandpas and Stupid People closed out the night with 4 and 0 points respectively.
