About Malo Restaurant

Our menu is impeccably prepared using solely fresh ingredients and a whole lot of love. We believe in great recipes, balance, and most importantly, consistency. Our kitchen’s ground beef and pickle tacos, burnt habanero crema salsa, and the bar staff’s no-compromise margaritas have been blogged about, mimicked, and consumed in enormous quantities from the day we first rolled them out. Since opening the original location in 2003, we’ve built Malo into a favorite Silver Lake dining destination with signature dishes including our made-to-order “chuey” chips, Mexican prepared corn, Shrimp Fundito, Ensenada Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, and braised chicken hard shell tacos.

Despite a valiant effort from all parties involved, team Murder failed to not be in dead last place for the entire night. In round 1 they didn't know that answer 2 was Alaska, cold and barren as their chances at victory. In round 2 they only scored 8 points, perhaps had they been bold enough to double down they wouldn't have been such losers. In round 3 they bob-bob-bobbed their way along not-victory river. In round 4 they shouted out the correct answer after only half of clue 1 had been read, a blatant violation of rule 2 for which they were awarded 11 points. In round 5 they scored only 20 points, truly tragically pitiful. Their remarkably strong showing in round 6's ailment themed questions is only fitting, as this team is themselves a walking malady. And ending round 7, Murder capped off the night with a truly dismal last-place score. Better luck next time, losers.

Four teams entered. Only one acheievsd victory.

The newcomers, the aptly named Malo @ Trivia, player valiantly but we’re tripped up by one small detail- “Indiana” doesn’t have 8 letters. It cost them third.

Pobody’s Nerfect, the returning champions, played cautiously, never doubling until the final round. The big gamble paid off- it secured them a spot in the top 3.

Fellow newcomers the Slippery Slopers had a rough start. They bombed the second and fourth round, but once they doubled up successfully in round 5 they found their place in the game and took a worthy silver.

And finally Murder came to slay, not to play. They played boldly, being the sole winners and correct guessers for the Guess Who? Round. They doubled repeatedly and successfully, holding on to the lead and never letting go. It won them their first victory at Malo.

Four teams entered. Most of them left fairly intoxicated, but satisfied.

The winds have changed. The tides have shifted. The impossible is now possible- Rouben Mamoulian’s Orthotics have been beaten. Long live Pobody’s Nerfect.

 

It was a thrilling showdown between four intelligent teams, with newcomers Lance’s Boils(ermakers) deftly taking the Guess Who? round. Alas, it takes more than intelligence to win trivia- it takes bravery. And Pobody’s Nerfect played boldly, successfully doubling their score twice.

Time will tell if our hometown heroes rise from the ashes, but I am so getting popcorn for the next showdown.
