Team Chad and Deep Fried Beer were challenged by newcomers Trix. Unfortunately, Trix had to leave before the end of trivia, so it left the two veteran teams to muscle for the title of first place. A double or nothing placed during round 2 by team chad put them in an early lead that they maintained and improved on through the game!

This week, I thought it was important to expand on the person featured in our “Guess Who” round John Cho. Not to be too serious as to bring up a political issue, but Cho has outstandingly spoken up against racism towards Asian-Americans in Hollywood both personally and on social media. In fact, in 2016 he started the hashtag #StarringJohnCho where he asked fans to photoshop him into the advertisements for films as the male lead to bring attention to the lack of Asian-Americans in lead roles. Hollywood and entertainment industries have had a long track record of discrimination and disenfranchisement of minorities. When you see diversity in lead roles, you can thank actors like John Cho.

The crowd is growing here at New Glory and there are already a few champs coming back to defend their title, The Roofus Doofuses. These daring dog-owning ne'er do wells faced off against all new teams I'm not drunk, Team Chad, and Blue is the worst color ever! Double or nothing paid off for Blue is the worst color ever in round 2 and they kept that momentum going! ******************FUN FACT OF THE WEEK************

As trivia here at New Glory takes off, it's time to discuss other great launches. This week I'll focus on Chuck Yeager. Yeager made a name for himself in WW2 shooting down 13 enemy planes. He was shot down himself but evaded capture. After the war, Bell Aircraft company was looking for experienced volunteer pilots for an important test flight. 

The test was the flight of the X-1. The X-1 was designed to do what was thought to be impossible: break the sound barrier. In 1947, a bomber dropped Chuck in the X-1 out of the bay doors above Dry Lakes in southern California. The aircraft moved at over 662 mph at the altitude of 25,000 feet and indeed did the impossible and broke the sound barrier. Yeager passed away this last December at the ripe old age of 97.

Good evening everyone and welcome to the largest trivia night at this venue so far. There were five teams, all of them new! What an awesome group it was too. Each team was full of jokes, charisma, and trivia knowledge and ready to go. Tonight I personally saw one of the biggest high scores of all time earned by The Roofus Doofuses (team mascot seen below)

****************FUN TRIVIA FACT OF THE WEEK**********

I'm going to sneak this one in here due to there being a question about video games released in 1996. This was a big year for video games including Pokemon Red and Blue in the US. This was the video game that almost didn't become the phenomenon we know today. Gamefreak pitched it to Nintendo several times and there were a lot of unpaid hours just to get it to market.

Once it was on the market it was only reporting modest sales. What really boosted it to stardom was mew #151 who was found in the game only as bonus content. Once players found out, gamefreak hosted a huge event where 200 people could get mew. In the end, there were 78,000 entrants and a huge surge in sales of the games. The rest is history.
