Trivia Recap: The 7 Rounds of Mayhem (plus booze)

Round One: Things kicked off like any normal night of bar trivia—with misplaced confidence and one team insisting, “We definitely learned that in third grade.” There’s no crying in trivia took an early lead, proving they know their General Knowledge better than Google on caffeine. KABAM! tried to challenge them, but unfortunately thought the capital of Canada was “C”.

Round Two: The subject? Movies and shows featuring Richard Kind. Yes, that guy. The character actor king. Somehow, There’s no crying in trivia flexed a suspiciously encyclopedic knowledge of Kind’s IMDb page. Meanwhile, Misfits tried to answer “Spin City” for every question and Ingenious Geniuses thought he was a guest judge on Top Chef. He wasn’t.

Round Three: A wild thematic twist! Questions about the future and people named May. Again, There’s no crying in trivia rose like a Terminator programmed for trivia dominance. When asked to name a famous “May,” they confidently said “Brian May” before the host even finished the question. Half the teams just wrote “May the Force be with you” and hoped for partial credit.

Round Four: Time for the Mystery Person Round, and all clues pointed to Janet Jackson. There’s no crying in trivia guessed it before anyone else even knew it was a woman. KABAM! guessed “Jermaine Dupri” three times in a row, which was… not totally unreasonable but entirely incorrect.

Round Five: Pet food brands were the secret thread in this “Find the Connection” round. There’s no crying in trivia continued their reign of terror like a pack of ravenous trivia wolves sniffing out Meow Mix. Ingenious Geniuses guessed “types of dirt” as the common link and were promptly put on cat-litter cleanup duty.

Drinking Round: Like a halftime show with fewer wardrobe malfunctions and more bourbon, the SmarterPhone challenge (Gone With the Wind edition) arrived. And KABAM! finally lived up to their name, crushing it with a passionate monologue about Scarlett O’Hara that made the bartender tear up. Victory at last! (Sort of.)

Round Six: Back to business. This time, a matching round between Wonders of the World and their countries. There’s no crying in trivia matched Petra with Jordan faster than Indiana Jones himself. Meanwhile, the Misfits matched “Pizza” to “Italy” and demanded points for “emotional accuracy.”

Round Seven: Final round. The theme? Fortune 500 companies in California. If trivia had a stock market, There’s no crying in trivia would’ve been Apple, Google, and In-N-Out all rolled into one. The others? More like RadioShack (R.I.P.).

Final Score: There’s no crying in trivia won every round except the one where alcohol made the rules. Their domination was so thorough we’re considering drug-testing them for performance-enhancing encyclopedias.

Until next time, may your guesses be lucky, your team names punny, and your trivia host sober-ish.

-James

Trivia Recap: 7 Rounds, 1 Buzzed Intermission, and a B-Sharps Dynasty

Round One: The night kicked off with a classic free-for-all of General Knowledge, where brain cells were stretched, coffee was sipped with purpose, and The B-Sharps and KABAM! burst out of the gate like two caffeinated Jeopardy contestants fighting over the buzzer. But ultimately, The B-Sharps hit the right note and took the early lead. Milk ‘n’ Cookies, meanwhile, may have been more milk than cookies.

Round Two: Fictional athletes were the name of the game, and The B-Sharps kept their trivia batting average at .1000. They nailed every imaginary jock from Happy Gilmore to Willie “Mays” Hayes, while There’s No Crying in Trivia lived up to their name by quietly sobbing into their beer over forgetting Air Bud.

Round Three: We swung wildly from Famous Winners to the Victorian Era—because who doesn’t think of Oscar winners and cholera outbreaks in the same breath? The B-Sharps continued their reign, proving once and for all they are both historically refined and disgustingly well-read.

Round Four: The mystery person? Katherine Heigl. The mystery to us? How The B-Sharps keep doing this. With a disturbingly fast ID of Heigl based on a photo of a blurred rom-com poster, they left the other teams saying, “27 guesses later and we’re still wrong.”

Round Five: A Find-the-Connection round all about Steve Carell, which The B-Sharps handled like Michael Scott organizing a Scranton branch trivia night. From Brick Tamland to Gru, they pieced the puzzle together and stayed on top. City Girls, meanwhile, kept asking if Steve Carell was in Gossip Girl.

Drinking Round Intermission: Just when the trivia tension needed to be sedated with alcohol, the Drinking Round hit—and it was about The Riddler’s costume. As in, the thing that guy wears while making life hard for Batman. There’s No Crying in Trivia swooped in with a costume critique worthy of a Gotham fashion blog and claimed victory, proving that they might not know fake athletes, but they do know how to accessorize with question marks while holding a beer.

Round Six: Back to business with a college town matching game, and surprise surprise—The B-Sharps were still running this thing like an Ivy League admissions officer. Kiss My Axe made a valiant attempt, but kept insisting Hogwarts was in Vermont.

Round Seven: The final round rocked out with top-billed Coachella artists, and The B-Sharps wrapped it up like a surprise Sunday set by Beyoncé herself. They knew their headliners, their festivals, and probably what color lanyard you need for backstage access. The Edjuh Macayders tried their best, but sadly confused Ice Spice for a new Starbucks drink.

Final Thought: Seven rounds, one drinking detour, and The B-Sharps never let go of the mic. The rest of the teams fought bravely, occasionally correctly, and always hilariously. Here’s to next game—may the trivia odds be ever in someone else’s favor.

See you next week!

Trivia Night Recap: The Saga of Sass, Snacks, and Sudden Screaming

Round One:

KABAM! came out swinging like trivia’s Mike Tyson, punching their way to the top with their encyclopedic knowledge of general randomness. But There’s No Crying in Trivia was already sniffling — not from sadness, just allergies. Or rage. Unclear.

Round Two:

Still feeling themselves, KABAM! chomped necks and chewed scenery as they dominated all things vampire. Turns out watching every season of True Blood and Twilight ironically gives you bite. The rest of the teams were left in the crypt.

Round Three:

Hold the garlic! There’s No Crying in Trivia put on their running shoes (and aprons?) and zoomed past everyone with a shocking amount of knowledge about both Olympic sprinters and Indian spices. That’s range. KABAM! dropped to second, still trying to remember if turmeric is a root or a Hogwarts house.

Round Four:

Things got weird. Real weird. A mystery person round had folks guessing wildly, but There’s No Crying in Trivia somehow summoned the holy trivia spirit and correctly ID’d Pope Francis I. KABAM! guessed “Papa John” with unsettling confidence.

Round Five:

The theme was a connection round about the Garden of Eden, and There’s No Crying in Trivia had clearly been studying their Sunday school notes—or they just really like apples and metaphors. Either way, they nailed it. Shea Butter got distracted trying to decide if a fig leaf counts as “casual wear.”

Drinking Round (Chaos Intermission):

With alcohol flowing and dignity retreating, KABAM! roared back to life, winning the drinking round focused on Easter candy with impressive knowledge of marshmallow production and chocolate bunny stats. 2girls1baby took a shot every time someone said “jelly bean” and have not been seen since.

Round Six:

We were all surprised There’s No Crying in Trivia could still read after the drinking round, but they flexed some serious sequel-sleuthing skills in the book matching round. Olson matched “Dune” with “Fast & Furious 9” and claimed it was “emotionally correct.”

Round Seven:

It ended with chills — literally. The final round was all about frigid temps and who’s staking claims in Antarctica, and There’s No Crying in Trivia closed it out like a penguin in a parka: cold, calculating, and waddling triumphantly to victory. AmazSingh kept yelling, “New Zealand owns the ice!” which is not technically wrong, but still got zero points.

Final Verdict:

There’s No Crying in Trivia took the crown with brainpower, tenacity, and probably some kind of trivia blood pact. KABAM! was a noble runner-up, and everyone else? They had a good time. Or at least they think they did. Memory gets fuzzy around Round 5.

See you all next week!
