This humble Quizmaster has been told by many teams throughout the years that aside from my kooky tunes and kookier personality, they keep coming back to play in my trivial Kingdom in part because I am known to reveal random anecdotes from my life that are germane to the quiz at hand. Hopefully, said stories help to make the game into something resembling a (_~~<SHOW>~~_) rather than coming off more like a 12-Step program sharing period.

In that spirit of relevant yarn weaving, let me preface by saying that the Drinking Round was to name as many species that have appeared on/in Star Trek as humanly possible. (I'm such a speciesist, I know.) Which brings me to my first recollection of encountering Star Trek. It was late at night, or so it seemed - I was probably only 4 years old - and my parents were siting in the dark watching a bit of The Next Generation. I must have been a convict from bed that night, because I recall being scolded before ultimately being allowed to stay until the next commercial break. Well, never having seen any sort of live-action fantasy that was set in *SPACE*, I was curious enough that I asked whether this TV show was really in outer space. And I meant REALLY, as in was the television program filmed dozens of miles above terra firma in some sort of orbiting film studio. My parents, probably wanting to just focus on the fine entertainment before them and definitely misunderstanding me, said that indeed, the people before me were in space.

And that was it. Parents know everything and only tell the truth (because why wouldn't they?) so from then on until some embarrassing moment too many years in the future, I was convinced that Star Trek was an amazing show not just because of the fantastically rendered characters and situations, but especially because IT WAS ACTUALLY MADE OUT THERE IN THE STARS.

Even more relevant, though, is that The Flux Capacitors dominated the Drinking Round that I created (to honor the upcoming premiere of Star Trek: Discovery) by naming 22 species. And I should point out that they didn't guess once: every word on their sheet was a correct answer. As that roguish villain Khan said to Frodo before getting into his TARDIS to go destroy Hogsmeade: "Impressive. Most impressive."
