It was another small but mighty crew at The Block for King Trivia night this week.
Participation Trophy started strong with six correct answers in Round 1, thanks to a handy song they learned in elementary school to remember the US Presidents, in order. And through Round 4, when they correctly identified the University of Oxford as the "Guess Where?" location, they built an impressive 13-point lead over last week's winners (with a new name) Mershberger.
But, Mershberger wouldn't stay down for long. With recent Los Angeles transplants on the team, who familiar with the Weinerschnitzel Hot Dog stands that line California highways, they nailed all of Round 5's 9 trivia questions and correctly guessed their common thread - all German words. And, with a smart gamble on double-or-nothing, they tied the score at 31-all!
In the penultimate round, both of our teams correctly matched all of the fruit to their song titles and the score remained tied - but now at 41-41.
The final round of the night asked our teams to identify the 8 current tokens that come with a standard US Monopoly game. Since Monopoly discontinued multiple, long-standing tokens in 2017 and chose replacements through an online poll, Round 7 proved to be a much harder task than initially assumed. Forgetting about recent additions the T Rex, the Rubber Ducky and the Penguin, both teams could only identify four tokens each leaving our scores still tied - 45-45!
To finally break the tie, teams had one more question to face: How many grams of sugar are in a peanut butter smoothie? In the end Participation Trophy guessed closest to the correct answer and took the prize for the night!
Hopefully we can add some more teams to the mix next week! So, if you're in or around UW - come join us at 7 PM each and every Wednesday!

Another great night of King Trivia at The Block in the U District is in the books!
After Round 1 threw all three teams for a pretty big loop, newcomers Getting Rigley Whit It jumped out ahead after Round 2 by correctly naming all 8 popular toys of the 1990s - even though, yes, Bratz dolls didn't actually make their debut until 2001.
Through rounds 3, 4 and 5 our teams matched each other point-for-point, answer for answer setting up a need for both Bad B*tches Only and Participation Trophy to know big and go big in the final rounds if they wanted to come out on top.
In Round 6 teams had to match Hip Hop stars with their hometowns. Bad B*tches Only shot their shot for 20 possible points by checking the Double-or-Nothing box, but they mistakenly matched Lil Wayne with Houston, not New Orleans and scored ZERO for the round.
In the final round, teams were asked to name the top 10 highest grossing films that included Natalie Portman in the cast (not counting Avengers: End Game). No team could name all 10, but both Participation Trophy and Getting Rigley Whit It came close with 8!
In the end, the early gamble paid off for Getting Rigley Whit It - our winners with 54 points! Participation Trophy finished in 2nd with 42 points. And Bad B*tches Only finished with in 3rd.
Thank you all for coming and joining me for King Trivia at The Block! I'll see you all again next week - same time, same place.
