I've been a proud King Trivia Quizmaster for about four months. Each time I have the opportunity to host, it's always fun. Albeit a bit laden with stress or anxiety at times - simple addition in front of a crowd can be challenging - I always leave the venue with a smile on my face knowing the audience had fun, as did I.
Last night, however, stands out as one of my favorite nights of trivia thus far! It was just an average Thursday - no theme night or holiday. However, our 10 teams at The Dudes were engaged and excited to be there. My unintentional puns rolled right of the tongue and the audience's laughter lightened the room!
We had some guests from out of town who said they always look for the bars with trivia when they visit. This duo, the Chick and the Duck, won our drinking round question! Did you know 18 million trees died in 2018? Seems like a lot - and it is - but that count is down significantly from 2017 and 2016. #TheMoreYouKnow
On a personal level, my friends finally reached the podium! We have been coming to trivia for longer than I've been a QM. It was with these friends that I discovered my desire to be a QM. We love trivia, but are not always the strongest competitors. However, the team members diversified and brought in some new teammates to score third! It was a nail-biting tie breaking final question to determine second and third place. While they should have double-or-nothinged on a round and would have taken first, we will settle for third! And I say we, but mean them. Just a proud stage mom!
Super fun night and looking forward to next week where I heard my real mom will be in attendance. It'll be a family affair The Dudes next week. Bring your mom!!

We had a spooktacular trivia at The Dudes Brewing Boo-ing Co. tonight!
The ghouls and goblins of Santa Monica arrived in full force for seven rounds of frights.
The competing covens tested their minds while drinking witches' brews, and despite our region's smoky air, there weren't too many achoos.
The questions were themed about tricking or treating, and we made sure that none of the teams were caught cheating.
Some teams were in costume and others were plain, regardless of appearance, new knowledge was gained.
It was a memorable evening at our favorite spot. We look forward to trivia, whether it's Halloweeny or not!

It was another electric evening at The Dudes! Despite the change of the seasons and the sun setting well before we kicked off at 7:30 pm, we still had a fabulous turnout. This week's teams were diverse in age and experience, resulting in some of the most stimulating King Trivia I've seen during my near 3-month tenure as a Quizmaster.
There were some 20-somethings, 30-somethings, parents and even two babies! Start 'em young, amirite?
The teams were are on the larger side so you know that it was an evening full of friends coming together. The sports atmosphere also increased the collective camaraderie. We had Thursday Night Football on one screen, Clippers vs. Warriors on another and World Series highlights on in between.
In the spirit of SpOoKy SeAsOn, this week's drinking round question was: what does the average American spend on Halloween? According to USA Today (2018), the answer is $86.79! Our winning team for this round, Colorado Border Wall, came in at $85 so they were, quite literally, right on the money! Some teams' guesses were in the triple digits - probably a reflection of their own affinity and spending toward the holiday. Perhaps we should have factored in SoCal premium for that answer, but alas, $86.79 is what the average Joe/Josefina spends on Halloween.
I let the players know that next week I will be donning a costume in honor of All Hallow's Even when we reconvene on 10/31 for some brews and boos! Hope to see all you ghouls and goblins there.
