About The Famous Bar

The Famous craft cocktail lounge is located in Glendale's historic Huntley-Evans building, directly across the street from the Americana at Brand. It follows an eclectic and rich pedigree of establishments that have called this building home in the last century, most notably the early Glendale landmark, The Famous Department Store. The Famous, true to its heritage, embraces the classic art of fine craft cocktail creation, invented in the United States in 1856, using bitters, juices, syrups, and infusions, prepared in-house using fresh ingredients from local markets and growers. Cocktails served at The Famous are identical to those served nearly 100 years ago when the building was constructed.

It's always nice to make new friends, and we made a LOT of 'em this week at The Famous. A large group of co-workers from a nearby office came in to celebrate one of their owns last day. And despite being new to our game, Last Day Da did great, finishing with a third place win.

But the real competition was, as is often the case, between formidable frequent quizzers Gentle Sweaters and Yer a Quizard Harry, with the Woolite crew squeaking out the win by just ONE point!!

Okay, so, Yer a Quizard Harry is gettin' pretty full of themselves. I mean, not only did they win the quiz for the second week in a row! They did it by successfully doubling-down not once; not twice; but FOUR times! Sheesh! Those muggles are pretty smart!

And love was in the air at The Famous in Glendale last night! At least, maybe. Quizmaster's must be very observant. And last night, we observed an attractive young couple seated on the couch across from the QM Command Center (i.e. my little table in the corner) who were new to our game.

They seemed to be enjoying the quiz - and each other's company - very much. So when the young lady turned in her answer sheet after Round 5, I said, "you guys look great together! How long have you been together?"

She smiled, laughed a little and said, "this is our first date!"

"You chose trivia night for your first date!? That's fantastic!" I replied. "So, how's it going so far?" I asked.

"Pretty good, I think. We'll see..." she said with a smile.

No, they didn't finish in the top three, but based on the kiss they shared later in the evening, I believe they felt like they were winning.

Happy Birthday Megan!

That's Megan, right there in the middle of photo #1. She turned 28 this week and celebrated with her teammates on Yer A Quizard, Harry by making everyone else feel Dumb(ledore) when they blew away the competition and won the night with a formidable score of 83!

And it was formidable competition, to be sure! Electric Moustache finished in second - just six points behind - with 77, and perennial powerhouse Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink finished in third with 75 points, and felt the sting of regret that occurs when you opt out of an opportunity to double and discover later on that those missed points would have tied you for first place.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt! But not as much as the harsh regret of finishing the quiz just one point shy of the winner's circle. How much does that hurt? Just ask the fine folks of 2nd Nook On The Left, who took fourth spot on the tally with a 74 - just a point behind the Jeopardy people!

What a night! What a fight! What a treat to host this odd collection of nerdy quiz whackadoos! Let's do it all again next week! See ya then!
