What a Wild July Night at Barney's Westwood!

28 teams arrived for the chance of prizes, frivolity, and maybe even some bragging rights.

It was anyone's game as each round teams traded places in points like seventh graders at a pokemon card convention: frantically and confused with unexplained enthusiasm.

The dreams of many were set on the Rocheambeau round, and with 28 contenders, it was an epic tournament of wits, with contestants running with scissors, rocking out, and papering the walls with their attempts, though because Barney's Westwood treats us so nicely, the two finalists both walked away with prizes, an appetizer for second place, and a round of drinks for first.

Then, it was back to the quiz with a "Find the connection" round that very few succesfully swung and hit on. Those valiant quizzers who Matched the Sexy men with their Winning years found that Harrisson Ford didn't stay sexy as long as they thought, at least according to magazines. The Best List of Female Superheroes did, though, save us all from an unspectacular end, and the victors emerged.

What a great night! Over 25 teams played and the entire evening was quite competitive. In the end, only one point separated first and second place, with only four points between second and third place. Not a lot of double or nothing play, which likely created the close competition. Barney's Westwood does it right. Always a great crowd!

A pen, the lifetime biography of Anna Farris, and missed opportunity to check that little, tempting double or nothing box -- and suddenly a Barney's Beanery Westwood rivalry is born.

Defending champs Yasssss Queens, frequent money hoarders Alex Trebek's Children, and a group of regulars who spent their Wednesday night on a crusade to make Joy single again (with her newlywed husband at the table) - locked horns in epic battle that saw a SINGLE missed question all night between the 3 teams. #NoJoke.

In the end, knowing their way about non-Disney animated franchises and horror movie parodies, and drawing great inspiration from the legend Kenny Rogers himself -- you know, on a warm summer's evening, on a train bound for Barney's Westwood, I met up with some gamblers -- you gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to double or nothing -- and Joy Single Crusade did -- all the way to a nice round 1-0-0.

We've got a new contender for best answer sheet handwriting -- That's What I'm Tolkien About, the gauntlet was laid down this week by Team Double Gs.

We even got ourselves a new 3rd place tradition -- invented by the Yasss Queens themselves -- smiles in King Trivia winners' photos are reserved for 1st and 2nd place...

Temperatures outside are getting warmer, the sun is staying out longer, and the competition on Wednesday nights are Barneys is at an all-time high. Time for everyone to come through their gambling hat in the ring...
