HOLIDAY MOVIE THEMED EVENT AT IDLE HOUR RECAP

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! It’s a Holiday Movie trivia special here at Idle Hour, and a collection of criminally talented teams joined us for an epic night. Having decided to come to the coast, get together, and have a few laughs, we got down to quizness and started the show. 

Round One was a smorgasbord of holiday and holiday-adjacent movies, but only one teams was bold enough to risk it all for the big win! Bumping Uglies took an early lead, hoping to keep it going all night long.

Round Two was a challenging look at some holiday movies (and the lost art of gift giving. Oh Fudge managed to pull into second place, just ahead of Make it Reindeer. 

Round Three was a theme on a theme, focusing on just Hallmark Christmas movies (and the spiraling void of darkness they can bring). Bumping Uglies maintained their lead, but it was Sexy Sondheim making their way closer and closer to the top. By the end of Round Four, they earned their spot in third place!

For our Drinking Round, we asked our teams to count how many movies about Chanukah had ever been produced by Hallmark. The shameful answer is six (do better, Mr. Hallmark). With a spot on answer, Oh, Fudge took the free drinks!

Round Five unveiled a jamboree of holiday classics, teasing our teams with a possible connection. For some teams there was just no question, and the scores certainly showed that confidence. Quiz Lemons, channeling all the energy of a holiday-themed Tina Fey, surged into third!

Most people feel they know a lot of movie quotes, so we challenged them in Round Six to match as many as they could. Bumping Uglies managed a clutch double that took their lead to a more commanding position, but they weren’t out of trouble yet. With one last question remaining, who would take home the big prize?

As the dust settled, we announced our winners: Bumping Uglies, Quiz Lemons, and Make it Reindeer.

QUIZ RECAP

The heavens were open this fine Tuesday eve as the rains blessed the folk out in NoHo. Despite the chilly temperature and slightly wetter weather, the crowds were out in force to enjoy the best part of the holidays: KING TRIVIA!

12 teams braved their way to Idle Hour seeking out warmth, a dry haven to manage the storm, and the best trivia show in all the lands. With our assembled teams raring to go, we kicked things off with a test of general knowledge. 

Round One was more of a maneuvering challenge as the QM wove between tables and ducked under umbrellas to spread the word and keep the guests up to speed on the contest. In the end, three teams locked in a solid double and took the top spot: The Valley Girls, Lee’s Here, and It’s Quizness Time!

Round Two placed our teams in the shoes of the Paparazzi, trying to identify celebrities based on their outrageous outfits. With such subjective material, it was only natural for the herd to thin out and a leader to emerge. The Valley Girls took the top spot, followed by It’s Quizness Time and Lee’s Here.

With a deceptively fun and catchy name, Round Three presented our teams with question about sports and spice (it was all quite nice). The Valley Girls ended up tied with Don Cheadle’s Driveway, while Lee’s Here and It’s Quizness Time took a tie for second.

In our Guess Who Round, most teams figured it out in two, keeping the scores locked as we moved into the Drinking Round. 

It’s National Fruitcake Day! We asked our teams to tell us how many fruitcakes are sold in the US every year. With the closest guess by about 800,000, It’s Quizness Time took the round!

Round Five went crazy fast as the teams needed to guess a connection between nine desperately strange answers. After correctly guessing that everything pointed toward a certain “strong to the finish” sailor, Don Cheadle’s Driveway leapt ahead into first!’

Our penultimate round was all about national parks, and these teams…just weren’t really about that. In a sudden burst, Lee’s Here took away the lead by a single point! It would all come down to the final round. 

With everything on the line, our champions threw down the gauntlet and answered to the best of their abilities. It went to a tie-breaker to settle the final score, but we crowned It’s Quizness Time our champions, with Lee’s Here and Don Cheadle’s Driveway following.

QUIZ RECAP

Winter is still a day away, but the festive spirit had already taken here at Idle Hour. Our bastion of barrel-tude was decked in lights and colorful wreaths, beckoning all to these hallowed halls for some good ol’ fashioned food and drinks. Then this QM came and wrecked the whole thing with some EPIC TRIVIA!

28 teams arrived in our arena to throw down with the best, earn prizes, and eat some free chocolate. With glory and a gift card on the line, these champions sharpened their minds and went to work. 

Round One was a strong warm up, like a cup of hot cocoa after a long day on the slopes. Over ten teams locked in a solid double and tied at the top, but things were only going to heat up from here. 

Round Two tested our teams’ knowledge of holiday films, and Q5 threw them for a big loop. This left an opening for Best of Times, Chevrone, and Celeste to leap into the top spot!

Round Three went to Celeste and Chevrone as they rode another double into a locked first spot. Round 4 kept the board mostly the same, though It Was the Best of Times started to creep upward with some seriously strong guesswork. 

For our drinking round, we invited our teams to reinvent holiday carol classics for Chanukah! With an insanely detailed parody of Jessie J’s “Price Tag,” We Will Pet All The Puppies earned the free shots. 

Round Six saw some INCREDIBLE changes to the leader board. First, it was revealed that our top two teams were in fact…just ONE TEAM! This shook up the entire board and welcomed new teams into striking position. This also saw Camp Mohawk close the gap into 3rd place!

Round Six was a major shakeup, as Cold Stone jumped to second, and Best of Time to third. It was down to the final round to settle the scores once and for all. 

As the dust settled, we found that no ties were left and the scores were plain to see. Chevrone took the top spot, followed by Cold Stone Steve Austin and It Was the Best of Times, It was the Worst of Tim!
