About Pappa's Artisanal

We are a great neighborhood pizza and brunch restaurant that's nestled in old town La Verne, California. Serving up sustainably raised, hormone and antibiotic free meats and treats, our goal is to bring communities together through great food and forward thinking education. Outside of the restaurant, we've become known for grilling for all sorts of occasions.  Give us a ring if you're hungry.  We cater. We office party. We festival party. Last day of September and a fun start to the week with some great rounds and a very close competition right to the end!

Each round had one or two tricky questions for one team or another leading to ups and downs. The always classy Funky Wagnalls led the way from the first round, but the other 3 teams close behind through the blues and the coffee and the quiz judging.

Snapes on the plane won the beer round by coming up with the most words in a minute from the word September - 14 - including the unusual but valid Sept (a clan (Irish))

Ship of Fools stole the election oops sorry competition with a very unusual last round successful double down!

Teams new to Pappa's, Regular players, Old Rivals and people just stopping by to eat, made for a fun first night of Fall!

Three teams were able to double down in Round 1 and in Round 3 making it quite a high scoring night. A wrong step down the Hollywood Walk of Fame path led Les Quiz astray, but they finished strongly and ended up in 2nd place, just edging out an impressive knowledge of biopics by 10 points for Gryffendor!

Congrats to Funky Wagnalls for a solid win and cheers for winning the beer round!

Low scoring, somewhat challenging game tonight! Some teams were perhaps seeing red after the 2nd round and it wasn't just the album covers....but the thought of the Chicken and Waffles from Roscoe's in round 3 made some smile, and everyone did guess Phil Collins by the 4th round of clues.

I really appreciated everyone's guesses of the word missing in the Irish song in the beer round. As a reminder, the songs are Paddy McGinty's Goat (NOT briefs) and The Rising of the Moon (NOT penis). There was even a Guinness T shirt in the house to complete the IRISH theme.....

Funky Wagnalls looked all set to take the victory, but the last round was totally in Ship of Fools armory, and, with a correct guess of 9 out of 10 of the 12 pieces of the board game Stratego, (of which the Quizmistress had not heard AT ALL (too busy listening to Irish songs growing up presumably!)) they commanded the win!
