Monday night at Pappa's Artisinal was a lively affair with all generations vying for the restaurant gift certificates and the beer round.
We were celebrating MOM's birthday, and the team, new to Trivia, got off to a strong start with successful double down in round two. However, lots of teams knew their Rogers, including the Brazilian Girls (maybe I should have made more use of Google Translate?) and it remained a close game through round 4.
Beads listened intently to the "guess the sound beer round" and were rewarded for their attention to detail!
The pesky Video Game question in the find the connection round 5 thwarted a lot of teams but Beads and Assistants knew their Red Dead Redemption and successfully doubled down and held on to first and second place to the end.
Disney Duo's proved another popular high scoring round; the NBA draft final question not so much - but everyone scored something with their (I suspect) random list of the worst NBA teams they could think of!
Benjamin's Foot, belonging to the very cute baby Benjamin, took a closely contested 3rd place.
Thanks everyone for coming out - great start to hopefully a great week!
Canada Day was a recurring theme in the quiz, leading to some tricky questions about our neighbors to the North, and a low scoring quiz overall. But it was a good opportunity to listen to "Case of You" by Joni Mitchell and "Alberta Alberta" by Eric Clapton at various stages while answers were being prepared!
Round 2 was particularly difficult, with Terence from South Park being the most recognizable character!
To celebrate Pride, for the Beer Round, I asked the teams to come up with new Acronyms for the colors of the rainbow, in either order and the winners were the 3 generational Funky Wagnalls, with " Raunchy old Yahoos Get Blasted in Virginia" , which makes you want to party with these guys!
Other notable entries - "Various Irritating Birds Giving You Obnoxious Replies" copyright Fontana Knowledge and "Vegas Is a Bettor's Graveyard You Only Regret" courtesy of Members of the Tribe.
With a successful double down in the Find the Connections round, the aforementioned MOT jumped into first place, which they retained despite poor knowledge of the lovely Ryan Reynold's movies. TG for Deadpool and Deadpool II.
Thanks everyone for playing! Have a wonderful 4th!
This is such a perfect space for Trivia with good food, beer and wine in downtown La Verne!
Sharks on the Ark got off to a ripping start with a successful double down, but with an unsuccessful double down were overtaken in the second round by a team new to King Trivia - the Young and Dumb. (The initial name they chose (Fiona is the Best) was VERY embarrassing to announce...) They knew all of the musical symbols AND listened to the double down instructions.
The tussle continued throughout the game. Sharks in the Ark could have doubled down in the difficult Connections round, but didn't....but neither did the Young and Dumb when they got all of Tarantino's Ladies! The Young and the Dumb prevailed using their newly acquired King Trivia number for the crucial 2 points to win by one.
Meanwhile Funky Wagnalls crept up the ranks to assume 3rd place, with a blistering 9 in the final round.
Assistants to the Regional manager listened intently to the sounds I played in the beer round and won with a famous 5 points.
Thanks everyone and please come back again (bring friends!) next week for food, refreshments and fun!
