QUIZ RECAP

A very chill Sunday Brunch at Society Kitchen this week! With the outside patio filled with delightful couples and families more interested in their delicious meals and each other's company than trivia this afternoon, we kept the game indoors for the die-hard question-eers.

Team Topless Mimosas was new to trivia, and boy oh boy we're they surprised by the diverse nature of our questions. They had the whole restaurant roaring with laughter as they tried to work their way through the find the connection round. While it may have been a small group, it was HUGE fun!

QUIZ RECAP

Just because it's brunch doesn't mean we can't throw a barn-burner of a competition. While the mimosas were sadly out of stock, the crowds were definitely still pouring in to Society Kitchen this warm Sunday morning.

While several teams returned for the contest, there were a number of newcomers enchanted by the allure of good trivia and better food. Soon we had 7 teams competing for the grand prize.

Round after round, the leaderboard shook and shifted. Why No Mimosas took a commanding lead and secured a position in the final circle early on. Sibling Rivalry used their doubles to gain ground, but a lack of manpower kept them from answering all the questions in the latter half of the contest. Meanwhile, Bubbles (helped out by an adorable third party member) leapt into second place with moments to spare.

While every team left a winner, our final tally put Why No Mimosas in first, Bubbles in second, and RIP Tina Marie Carter in third.

QUIZ RECAP

Sunday's game was a game of two sides... inside and outside, thanks to a well-placed speaker, my mellifluous indoors bellowing, and a wireless mic that ALMOST lasted to the end of the game.

Inside? Solo player and quiet storm, Jason from High Society.

Outside? Season 7 champs and Season 9 bronze medalists, We Are Also the Help AKA Team of Enchantment AKA OMG A RETRIEVER PUPPY!!!! Who's a good trivia dog, yes, you are!

Where was I? Ah yes.

Round 1? Dual double-or-nothings. 14-14.

Round 2? Their baseball movie knowledge? Grand Slam. 30-30.

Round 3? They knew their Jews. And mad things. 42-42.

Round 4? Is that a blink? Nope, just both teams turning in on the second clue, but kudos to eventual third place team Unicorn Sprout for taking the shot on the 10 pointer and winning the round. 50-50.

Round 5 and Round 6? Double double toil and trouble. 90-90.

It came down to both teams knowledge of European geography to identify the eight countries that border Austria. Would endless hours of globe spinning and playing Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego pay off for our two teams and go to a tiebreaker?

Nope. High Society went 8 for 8, Team of Enchantment missed by 30 miles, which is how far Croatia is from Austria. Final score? 99-98 (including the 1 point pen return bonus). Boom. Ball game.

Kudos also go to father and children triple Humuhumunukuapua'a, which I understand is the state fish of Hawaii and not a team name custom designed to torture poor brunch quiz moderators. They were also perfect on the final round as well.

All in all, a great turnout for an early Sunday afternoon quiz. Hope you can make it sometime... may all your hunches win you brunches, and your knowledge win you porridge!
