QUIZ RECAP

Well, it must have been way too cold to sit on the patio yesterday because tables were in high demand inside Chuy's Simi for another exciting night of trivia!

Nine teams played last night, but it didn't matter to "We Shoulda Doubled," they coulda seen a million faces and still rocked 'em all.  Team Trainwreck had a good night as well for a solid second place finish and the Bulldogs did indeed brave life out on the patio for their third place finish.

As for the drinking round, our players learned how to be joke writers.  By submitting their punchline to a joke based on a suggestion (a can opener) from one of the evening's patrons, We Shoulda Doubled took home a ten dollar gift card with their entry that actually got a legitimate laugh.

What was the joke?  Well, let's see of you can do any better...

185 can openers walk into a bar,

the bartender says "I'm sorry, we don't serve can openers here"

and the can openers said...

(See, this is where you would write the punchline.  Our winning punchline last night?  Here ya go...)

"Hey, don't make us open up a can of whoop ass!"

Ok, so I guess ya had to be there.

...and maybe have had a couple of beers in ya too.  That always helps.

Yes, the picture don't lie.

Tonight was a lot like a bit that SNL's Weekend Update's Stefon might do a report on.

Stefon: Yes, yes, yes, yes... If you're looking to dance between rounds of trivia, look no further...  Simi Valley's Hottest Club that serves Tri-tip Fajitas, Chuy's, gets pumpin and the players start bumpin.

Tonight's game had everything...  marshmallows and graham crackers with Tequila, Hail Mary dating strategies, the world's worst thing to say at Dodgers Game*, a child, Angelina Joely, and a tie breaking question after round seven!

Me: Wait, Angelina Joely?

Stefon: Yes, that's like when Angelina Jolie and Joel the King Trivia Quiz Master were in a relationship and break up that was well documented in tabloid headlines?  We covered that at the end round four.

Me: Oh, yeah, that's right.  So there was a tie at the end of the game?

Stefon: Yes, yes, yes, yes.  We Shoulda Doubled pulled out the victory, but the real excitement was the battle for second and third place where The Bulldog's tie breaking answer was closer to the "Actual Retail Price without going over, Bob." 

Always, always, bid one.  Just one.  At least that's what all the Human Trivevians say.

Me: Trivevians?

Stefon: Yeah, that's like when you get a midget who plays trivia and looks like a bottle of Evian?

Me: Stefon everybody!  Well that's it for Chuy's Simi West Recap, good night and have a pleasant tomorrow!

*And now for the world's worst thing to say at a Dodger's game, as voted on by the fine people at Chuy's:

"Thank God Vin Scully is gone!"

The audible groan and then bigger laugh was well worth winning a gift card.  Thanks to Roll Tide for that one!

QUIZ RECAP

Everyone knows that Chuy's in Simi Valley is the premier destination for romance on Valentine's Day....

...unless of course you bail out on trivia to take your date to see that Fifty Shades movie a couple of doors down, like team "The Brian Hummel Clan" announced after finishing the first round last night.  Trivia or Fifty Shades with a date?  On Valentine's Day?  No contest.

Last night we also tried to play Love Connection with Heather, an eligible bachelorette and member of the night's winning team, Desserts.  Bachelors reading this, Heather is pictured on the left, and knows her trivia! So look out!  Unfortunately though, there were no eligible bachelors in Chuy's last night when she picked the best (or was it worst?) pick up line submitted by our players.  She took home a $10 gift card instead.  At least there's that, right?

We'll be back in two and two...

Desserts also got their "just desserts" squeaking out a one point victory over the always tough We Shoulda Doubled.  They were neck and neck all night long until the final round question which was about online dating.  Sorry We Shoulda Doubled, you weren't going to beat a bunch of single ladies out for "Galentines Day" with a question on Matchmaking  websites!  Cupid had spoken!

And finally for those scoring at home, I thankfully did not sing this week, but I did manage to do a horrible Chandler Bing and Robin Leech impersonation.
