About Scuttlebutt Taproom & Brewery

Founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996, the idea started as a homebrewing kit for Father’s Day 1990. As thoughtful as the gift was, it was also a source of strife – Scuttle wanted to use the kitchen for preparing meals for the family while Phil was crowding her out in favor of homemade beer. To maintain marital bliss we decided to move out of the kitchen and into a larger operation. A business plan was established in 1995 and we grew our operation from 5 gallon buckets to a 20 barrel system.

We brewed our first beer on July 4, 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. We brewed three styles of beer and finished out that first year with 170 barrels sold. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.

After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

What an awesome night of trivia. This being the third night of trivia we had to put a team in the overflow area. Hopefully next week we will have two teams out there.

This was a hard fought battle all the way. Many attempts at doubling with both successes and heartbreaks.

Going into the fourth round Peoples Republic had a slim 1 point lead over Space Force with the rest of the pack at least 4 points back. The high point total for round four was ZERO. Nobody knew who Ava DuVernay was and I still don't think people know who she is.

Round five saw four teams get perfect scores but only two of them doubled (Peoples Republic & Dipships). This leapfrogged Dipships into second place.

Round 6 saw all teams attempt at doubling with everybody being successful except The Aristocrats.

With all the wild action the game was up for grabs going into the last round. Party Llamas gambled big with a successful double while Space Force gambled and missed by one which would have put them in a tie for first place.

After all the dust settled, Peoples Democratic Republic of Everett took home the gold. Party Llamas took home the silver and Dipships took home the bronze.

I want to thank Nate the bartender and everybody who is coming out to make this new venture for Scuttlebutt a success. I am hoping to see everybody and their friends next week.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 Peoples Democratic Republic of Everett 62 5 1.000
2 Party Llamas 60 4 0.800
3 Dipships 55 3 0.600
4 Space Force 42 1 0.300
4 The Serpents 42 1 0.300
6 Aristocrats 21 0 0.000

In our second week of trivia at Scuttlebutt we more than doubled the participants from week one. Woohoo. Now lets see who won this week.

After round 2 we had a three way tie with Party Llamas falling of the pace with an unsuccessful double round. They redeemed themselves with a 10 pt. guess in the Guess Who round.

After 4 rounds, Vikings started to pull away from the pack with a double in round 3.

Party Llamas started to find their groove again and would finish in 2nd.

The battle for third came down to Wow Just Wow and My Couch Pulls Out But I Don't. With Wow Just Wow unsuccessfully going for double the last two rounds they pretty much just gave third to My Couch.

I want to thank everybody who is coming out and getting this trivia night going. It won't take too long. Everybody is having a blast and Nate is doing a great job keeping everybody hydrated. Until next Tuesday, ciao.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 Vikings 68 3 1.000
2 Party Llamas 45 2 0.667
3 My Couch Pulls Out But I Don't 34 1 0.333
4 Wow Just Wow 29 0 0.000

Tonight was the first night of King Trivia at Scuttlebutt and the first night Scuttlebutt has opened their doors on a Tuesday. There was a lot of fun with some tasty suds tonight.

Two teams started the competition to find out who would become the inaugural trivia champs at Scuttlebutt.

After three rounds these teams were neck and neck only being separated by 1 point. The "Guess Who" round is where the gap developed. Both teams guessing at the 6 pt clue. The difference was Bruce Wayne and not Bruce Lee. Giving Scoobie Took A Doodie a 6 point lead over JC Bach.

In the sixth round the late arriving team of T & Ritt joined the rat race.

The standings never did change after the fourth so Scoobie Took A Doodie hold the championship belt for the first week. Will they be able to defend next week? We will have to find out.

My question of the day, How do two teams that do not know much about college football both guess the Touchdown Jesus has something to do with Memphis University.

Thanks to Nate the bartender and everybody that showed up on this first night. Spread the word that Scuttlebutt Tap Room is now open on Tuesday and King Trivia is hosting trivia.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 Scoobie Took A Doodie 37 2 1.000
2 JC Bach 27 1 0.500
3 T & Ritt 9 0 0.000
