Our in house specials every Tuesday night are as follows:
"Last night I said these words to my teams,"
"This song is not really what it seems," - with apologies to the Fab Four.
The question was, "What popular foursome's debut album was titled Please Please Me?" Now, I knew the oldsters would get it a little too easily, so Quiz Master Lou read it, "What popular foursome's debut album was titled 'PLEASE (pause, one two...) Please Me?" Well, it didn't quite work. I only fooled one team. But what really threw them (and me) was that when I read the answer, I confessed my ploy then sang the phrase from the song. The only problem was, instead of singing the refrain, "Please please me, oh yeah, like I please you," Quiz Master Lou sang "Won't you Please please please me, please me, please meeee, yeah!" to the tune of Help! The fact that no one said anything to me about it afterwards indicates that either I got away with it, or the audience sort of ignored old Lou's senile dementia. (sigh)
The pub quiz at Shakertin's was quietly intense and subtlty dramatic. Bar Guy had been leading all night with a successful Double-or-Nothing out of the gate, while Deadly Alliance and Wossa-Matta-U had been tied for second place three rounds running. Then Boom! Bar Guy failed a DoN in Round Six while the aforementioned DA and W-M-U succeeded! Both teams surpassed Bar Guy and were tied for first place! W-M-U scooted to victory by one point. End of drama. Newbie duo The Avengers placed last, had fun and looked cute all evening. I hope they return.
QM Lou saying, "All the best!" Until next week!

"What's shakin' at Shakertin's?", one might ask. "King Trivia Pub Quiz!", of course one might answer. Based on the questions, one could get all shook up (ala Elvis) or shaken down (depending on one's gambling propensity.) One could also wish that Quiz Master Lou would stop using that tired old alliterative, but one could just as well wish that Shakertin's was named something else! Which is just as helpful as James Bond telling Inspector Mathias in Casino Royale (1967), "Excuse me, but it bothers me that you're a French Polcie Inspector but you've got a Scots accent." To which Mathias answered, "Aye. It bothers me, too..."
Before Teams was a Microsoft product, it's what we call our lovable groups of pub quiz players. (Let's just hope MS doesn't start charging us a subscriber fee for using the word!) We had five regs and one newbie team last night. A big welcome to We'll Figure it Out, who registered their team and got the two-point bonus. The Dog Whisperers came back and now probably hate Quiz Master Lou for advising caution when deciding to Double-or-Nothing on Round Three. Turns out they did get all six questions right, however, in retrospect, that extra six points would've only tied them for fourth place. Here for the Beer had to take third place after running neck-a-neck with Pickles on a Plate, who took second. Deadly Alliance seems to be on the Win Wagon, capturing first place for the third time in a row!
Last night's Picture Round of Two All Beef Patties, wherein identifying the (H)ambuger was the toughest challenge. No one could identify comedian Gregg Turkington's disgusting, misanthropic stand up persona of Neil Hamburger, although it might have warmed what passes for his heart to know he got guesses such as Pedo Burger and Greasy Burger.
That's all for QML this week. See you next Tuesday!

We shall call them The Magnificent Seven! That is, the seven teams that shook up Shakertin's sparring for superiority, severely shattering some while supporting the surplus! (Whew!) Translated, that means everyone showed up, played hard, were nice to each other, and had a good time...
Deadly Alliance walked away with top honors after scrambling with Pickles on a Plate who took second. The Rockefellers won third, just edging out the Bumble Bees. Kudos to Bowtie Alpacas who graced us with their smiling faces. Hats off to newbies Hat Tricks who maintained a solid ranking despite not having a two point bonus and a big welcome back to Quiz Whiz, whom we have not seen since our olden days over at Fairview Center.
I think our most ironic moment was that the answer to a Round Five question was Dallas Mavs player Luka Doncic. One waitress and a patron happened to be wearing #77 jerseys with "Doncic" clearly printed underneath! Interestingly, one team missed it.
That's all I got. Keep 'em flyin', buckaroos!
