QUIZ RECAP

Tonight was hoppin'. We had nine teams play with seven of those teams being brand new! The word about XL Public Trivia House is reaching interested patrons' ears and I am so happy to serve so many eager players! There was not a clear leader until round 6. One team was clearly ahead with two other teams tied for second. Then a surprise turn of events--our returning team, 'Quiz On Your Face' brought it home in the last round with a double or nothing steal! They named 10 of 11 college football teams and scored an extra whopping 20 points! They were the only team throught all rounds to utilize the double or nothing and man did it pay off! The rounds went smoothly and all players enjoyed the thrill of trivia!

Another packed night at XL Public House. Two new teams and three returning teams joined. The two winning teams battled it out last week and took turns getting first and second place these last two weeks. They always come with their A-game and I appreciate that they take the game seriously and play respectfully! Fun-fact: Did you know there is a difference between the Lychee and the Ramubtan? In our melon themed picture round, one of the fruits was a Rambutan. One player submitted lychee, sure it was correct, but was surprised to find it was a Rambutan. What is the difference? taste and look. Rambutan have hair and lychee have a rough exterior though when peeled they look the same.

For the first time back in over a year since the Pandemic, XL Public house was a FULL house! We had an amazing turnout with ZERO tables empty. We had three returning teams and two new teams. XL Public House owners and staff were absolutely fantastic hosts. I am excited to continue hosting shows every Thursday @ 7 pm! 

I must note this was the first implementation of the app and online system. All players and teams were good sports and caught on quick with our new easy-to-use app! 

Gameplay was competitive. No one was running away with the lead. We had three returning teams; "Quiz On Your Face", "It's Only Cannibalism If You Swallow", and "We Missed The Last Kardashian Episode For This?". We had two new teams who were brand new, but did not lack competitiveness; "Queens & Kings", and "Where The Hoes At?". 

Questions ranged from topics like Shakespeare, 1820s most populated cities, baseball, Taylor Swift, South Park. All ages were challenged with the variety of topics, questions, and themed rounds. In the end...it came down to one round. You see, a new rule for rounds 2 and 6 had a potential for teams to incur negative points and this ended up being the deciding factor for our first place and second place teams. With 27 points, "It's Only Cannibalism If You Swallow" took first place. With 26 points, "We Missed The Last Kardashian Episode For This?" narrowly missed first place; victory would have been theirs if not for sneaky negative points. "Quiz On Your Face" also had points deducted and would have taken that second place spot, but came in just slightly behind in third place with 24 points. 

Our new teams were strong in the first two rounds. I was impressed with "Queens and Kings" nailing every question and I would like to thank them for their enthusiasm and last-minute willingness to join the game! "Where The Hoes At?" our smallest, yet knowledgeable team brought in their charming Dachshund as their mascot and overcame "Queens and Kings" in the end with 14 points. "Queens and Kings" scored 12 points overall. 

Overall, a solid first week back! Thank you again to all players who participated and rolled with the new system!
