QUIZ RECAP

The wet weather kept some players away but we had a good turnout at Collision Brewing tonight, even with 2 teams of "regulars" missing. All 5 teams scored 3 of a possible 6 in Round 1, but #momjeans set the tone for the evening by converting a double-or-nothing in Round 2 and were never seriously challenged. Newcomers Team Awesomesauce were crippled by a failed double bid in Round 3; with several young children at their table, they lasted 5 rounds before making their exit. 4 of the 5 teams gave the correct answer for 10 points in the "Guess What" round; Trebek's Rejects knew the answer but thought it was too easy and outthought themselves, eventually scoring 8. When #momjeans hit another double for 20 points in Round 5, the rest of the field was left playing for 2nd place. First-timers Elbow Macaroni played consistently and well until the handout round; they were baffled by the array of hip hop artists, and the 1 point they took in that Round 6 kept them from the medal stand. In the end, #momjeans cruised home with a stellar 66 points, with Trebek's Rejects finishing 2nd, a full 19 points back. Butterbeer Beaches nosed out Elbow Macaroni for 3rd by a single point.

Most of Trebek's Rejects will be absent next week, choosing Billy Joel at Coors Field over Trivia Night at Collision (!). I look forward to seeing many of you again next week!

QUIZ RECAP

Even with 2 teams of regulars missing we had 31 players (comprising 5 teams) tonight at Collision Brewing, and the temperatures were back in a reasonable range too!

Newcomers JBIP were game competitors and played well but the zero they took on a failed double-or-nothing bid in the Theme Round sank their hopes of finishing in the money. Likewise returners Butterbeer Beaches were fairly steady but their 2 points (of a possible 6) in the Theme Round dropped them out of the running. The surprise team of the night were first-timers Party Monsters, who (along with Trebek's Rejects) converted a successful double in Round 2 to position themselves solidly in 2nd place behind the Rejects. Trebek's Rejects were steadily excellent throughout, at least tying for the high score in 6 of the 7 rounds (#momjeans scored 10 of a possible 10 in Round 6) and coasting to the win. #momjeans finished strongly, outscoring the Party Monsters by 2 points in rounds 5 & 6 to nose ahead of them by 3 and finish in 2nd place. Apparently the NFL Spelling Bee question was too easy....as ALL 5 TEAMS SUCCESSFULLY DOUBLED IN ROUND 7! It was a great night, I look forward to next week when (hopefully) our absent teams will return. See you all Next week!

The level of competition was almost as high as the temperatures around Longmont tonight, as the game was closely contested throughout. Brown Chicken, Brown Cow converted a successful double-or-nothing in Round 1 and led wire-to-wire, but they never led by more than the 6 point margin that double gave them. Newcomers Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants and defending champs Trebek's Rejects each scored 8 of a possible 8 in Round 2 to narrow the gap and 4 of the 5 teams scored 5 in Round 3 (Butterbeer Beaches scored 4), resulting in little movement in the standings. (Fortunately for them, Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants correctly answered question 3 with "Fleetwood Mac".) 4 teams also correctly answered the 6-point clue in the Guess What round; a tip of the cap is due Rejected Llamas at this point. First-timers who struggled mightily last week, they returned with a new name (and a KT team number!) and scored 16 of a possible 20 in the first 3 rounds. Sadly, they took a -1 in Round 4 and never recovered.

The "Find The Connection" round was extremely challenging for the players tonight, with Brown Chicken, Brown Cow and Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants pacing the field with 7 of a possible 10 points. ( A side note: tonight produced an exceptionally high number of hilarious[ly wrong] answers, many of which are unfit to print here, but Round 5 produced the topper of the night. One team had deduced the theme [types of squash but had no idea who starred in "Let's Stay Together" so they took a stab with "Butternut McGee". I wish I could share with you some of the attempts at naming Muppet movies.)

Round 6 produced an unlikely statistical anomaly: scores of 9-8-7-6-5 for the teams in places 1-2-3-4-5! Brown Chicken, Brown Cow entered the final round leading Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants by 5 points and Trebek's Rejects by 9, meaning they were not quite in the clear; as it happened they could correctly name "only" 4 movies starring The Muppets but the 2 teams trailing them each scored 6, leaving Brown Chicken, Brown Cow as this week's winners with 50 points. Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants finished 3 points back in 2nd place, with Trebek's Rejects a further 4 points behind in 3rd.

Let's do it again next week, hopefully under cooler conditions!
