Happy New Year all you trivia buffs! And especially to our stalwart players who came out in thirty degree weather to "chill out" at Dunn Brothers and test their knowledge. Always Late was actually on time and even registered their team! It must have had some kind of effect on their accumen because they walkeed away with first place! The Bowtie Alpacas changed their residency from the Heritage Pizza & Taproom to bunk in with Quiz Master Lou here at Dunn Bros and they won second place! The Sun Kings may have missed the sun but they won the tie breaker and came in third against the Dunn Bros Counter Staff team who just played for fun while the lovely Evelyn kept everyone's glass filled, plate full and rallied the counter help to stay in the game!
Kudos to our quiz writers at corp, who also kept our wits keen and our fits mean with some outstanding puzzlers. As you know, this often leads to unintentional mirth when wild guesses produce absurd results. For example, if one has no idea who Dorothy Dandrige was, then Betty White is a funny guess. (We mourn the old gal's passing but are amazed that she keeps us laughing even after she's gone. Must've been her super power...) A tip of the hat as well, for the Picture Round's pictures of words and letters as brain teasers. Very clever. And finally, Round Five's Find-the-Connection was so in-your-face that nobody got it. The groan factor was palpable on that one!
Well, here we are in 2022. According to the movie poster, this is the year of Soylent Green. While the manufacturers assure us Soylent Green is not people, I ain't comsumin' it! Of course, Blade Runner took place in 2019 and we still don't have flying cars... What? What's that? The Jetson? I thought that was a cartoon...

WHEREAS being the self appointed Mayor of King Trivia Pub
Quiz Mastery in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area...
WHEREAS this Thursday December 30th in the year of our Lord Two
Thousand and Twenty-One being the last King Trivia Pub Quiz
of the year (unless Stan's Blue Note runs a game on New Year's
Eve...)
WHEREAS particular mental, physical and spiritual energies
exert themselves during the chronological terminus of the
solar cycle...
I HEREBY PROCLAIM that this day (or the last day of the calendar
year that a King Trivia Pub Quiz falls upon) to be:
KING TRIVIA PUB QUIZ LAST DAY OF THE YEAR!!!
And so it came to pass that the Bumble Bees out buzzed and
out stung their competitors into first place with a nearly
twenty point lead! The Rockerfellers got second and the JFFC
took third. Meanwhile, we welcome the Bow Tie Alpacas (who
wandered down from the Heritage Pizza & Taproom - Welcome y'all!) to play and got fourth position and of course, stalwart regulars
Deadly Alliance!
Our quiz writing overlords provided their usual excellent selection
of minutia to ponder. The Picture Round's Identify The Famous Liz,
Elizabeth or Elisabeth prompted some amusing guesses. Yes, it was
too bad that Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched's Samantha) didn't
make the cut. Neither did Elizabeth Holmes, which was one team's
guess for every other answer hoping to get at least one extra
point. It's a good strategy when that choice is present,
but not when it ain't there! Style Points were awarded for
the substitution of Rosie the Riveter for Susan B. Anthony on Round
Three. Who knows? Maybe Rosie'll get her own coinage someday.
That's dependent on whether they'll be any money in the future.
Quiz Master Lou wishes you all a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas all! A great time was had at Dunn Brothers
last night with a pretty sizeable turnout that nearly filled
the joint!
We had six teams in attendance, including Wossa Matta-U, a
gang from Quiz Master Lou's old days over at Killarney's before
they became defunct. Referred to as the "Old School", they
commanded a first place lead in the first half of the game
before slipping to second. The Bumble Bees (and their
fifty pound brains) Double-or-Nothing'd their way into the
top spot in round five and came out the winners! Absent for
a while, Pickles on a Plate made a remarkable appearance and
comeback for third place honors, blowing past JFFC after a
grueling neck-a-neck run. JFFC toppled out of the winner's
circle after a three week straight, first place streak proving
that all things are transitory. A Christmas lesson? Deadly
Alliance tied JFFC for fourth place (but no tie breaker was
necessary) while rookie team Dukes came in last. Thanks for
coming back, guys. Youngbloods are much appreciated.
Our question sets were naturally posed for Christmasy lore and
esoterica. Our Find-the-Connection Round was also a combination
of Hangman as the commonality theme was spelled out by the
first letter of each of the previous nine answers! Clever
stuff, Quiz Overlords!
Thanks for playing! This is QM Lou saying, "Merry Christmas
to all and to all, a good night!"
