It was the best of quizzes, it was the worst of quizzes, it was
the age of discernment, it was the age of blindness, it was the
epoch of faith, it was the epoch of secularism, it was the
season of yes, it was the season of no, it was the
spring of optimism, it was the winter of misery, we had questions
before us, we had answers before us, we were all going to win,
we were all going to lose... In short, the past was so
far like the present, that some of its noisiest authorities
insisted on its being eradicated.
With apologies to Charles Dickens, that was of course, the
opening paragraph to a TALE OF TWO CITIES, horribly paraphrased
by your own Quiz Master Lou to fit some mad scheme to make our
pasttime more relevant that it really is. But, I digress...
The Rockerfellers had the juice last night, successfully
Double-or-Nothing twice in a row right out of the gate,
taking the lead and never looking back for a first place win
twenty points ahead of their nearest competitor! Deadly Alliance
(welcome back, BTW) finished second after a rough start.
JFFC picked up third place honors, also after a rough take
off and the Sun Kings, that adorable duo, finished last but
still had a good time!
The question set was really good, too. The Theme Round was
QM Lou's fave, alternating questions about movies based on
board games with conspiracy theories! Great stuff! The
Find-the-Connection Round's motif of TV Doctors was aslo
very clever. The Hand Out Round of matching songs with the
word "friend" in the title with their respective artists was
good, too; But QM Lou felt You've Got a Friend by Carole King
(James Taylor would have been an acceptable answer as well)
should have been included. Oh, well...
There will be no quiz next Thursday as it is Thanksgiving.
QM Lou wishes you all a happy holiday and will see you back
at Dunn Brothers in two weeks. Bye for now!

It was another swinging night at the Dunn Brothers Coffee Shop
as King Trivia Pub Quiz kicked off once again. Five teams got
together to compete and three walked away winners.
The Sun Kings returned for more punishment, finishing last, but
this little duo demonstrated style and grace above and beyond
the call of trivia. The Jody Foster Fan Club (JFFC) started
off great, breaking off from the pack to capture an early lead,
but got bumped to fourth position in Round Six. Team Finn
maintained a steady third place throughout, proving team discipline.
The Rockafellers surprised by failure to place until Round Six,
when a well placed Double-or-Nothing sprung them into second
place, where they ended the night. The dynamic duo known as
the Bumble Bees, knees wobbling, table sagging under the weight
of their 50 lb. brains, finished first with two successful
Double-or-Nothing's in the final two Rounds putting them out front
with points to spare!
Quiz question madness ensued. The Picture Round of identifying
dinos from the Jurassic Park franchise baffled and amused
simultaneously. Remember the Dilophosaurus? Of course not
because the name was obscured by association. But you know
it as the poison spitting lizard that got Wayne Knight's traitorous
character of Dennis Nedry. Well, style points went to guesses
Lebron James and Spit-a-saurus for that one. One wag decided
to label the Velociraptor as Melissa. (Hmmm... Wouldn't want
to meet her!)
That's all folks! See you next week!

Five teams went in and three emerged winners in last night's
usual Thursday King Trivia Pub Quiz held at the fun and lovely
Dunn Brothers Coffee Shop in Plano.
Newcomers Always Late started off with a possible third place
win but fumbled with a badly placed Double-or-Nothing in Round
Six shutting themselves out to last. Registered team The Sun
King played it straight and steady with a fourth position
standing all through the evening. Pickles on a Plate dropped
the ball in the first round with an unsuccessful DoN and tripped
right out of the gate with a zero, but managed to pull themselves
back up for third place win! The Jody Foster Fan Club pulled
off a nice second place win while resident champs the Rockafellers
took first place honors... Again!
Hats off to our quiz writers who gave us a nice assortment of
subjects touching on sports, Sesame Street, foreign languages
and air travel. Style points were awarded for guesses of
deperation. 2 Chainz was mistaken for Whoopie Goldberg.
Sesame Street's HIV positive character Kami was wrongly guessed
as Magic Johnson or The Count. The Find-the-Connection Round's
mystery connection was Automobile Models, but guesses ranged
from South America to Non-Fiction to the color Red. Go figure.
Quiz Master Lou is happy to be back in the saddle and wishes
all a most pleasant weekend. Bye for now!
