My, oh my!  What a chariot race we had at Dunn Brothers Coffee

Shop last night!  Five teams all bolted from the gates like

Ben-Hur and Masala!  The action was constant too.  It started

off with a four way tie, narrowed to a two way, the lead kept

passing hands and everybody was trying to avoid the chariot

with the Thracian wheels!

High action, high drama and high scores permeated the lovely

sunset atmosphere of the patio setting punctuated only by the

sounds of the nearby President George Bush Turnpike, Quiz Master

Lou's Playlist and of course King Trivia Pub Quiz questions!

It was really great to see the Bumble Bees.  They finally made it

over to DB's and fared fairly well, taking an early lead but sliding

back to fifth place in the heated closing round.  Jodie Foster

Fan Club returned and provided a mirror opposite performance,

starting off low but ending high.  (JFFC, register your team1

That two point bonus would have tied you for third place!  Take

QM Lou's advice!)  Pickles on a Plate won third place (by two

points!).  Deadly Alliance snagged second place while the

Rockefellers took first.  Statistic wise, QM Lou saw something

unprecedented in his experience.  A total of fourteen Double-

or-Nothing's were offered with ten of them going off successfully!

That's a 71% success rate, an unheard of average when DoN is

employed!

This week's question set was another winner if a bit heavy on

the pop culture, but hey...  Double-or-Nothing's, right? This

week's mirth award goes to the team that misidentified Rainbow

Dash (the My Little Pony) for Rainbow Brite (the little girl

who wears rainbow colors and rides a white steed.)

That's all the news that fits.  Have a lovely weekend!

"Thirty days hath September" begins the poem that teaches us how

many days are in each month and it was on that thirtieth day

that Dunn Brothers Coffee Shop hosted its second successful

King Trivia Pub Quiz!  Seven teams consisting of twenty-four

players threw down the gauntlet and jousted in the lists for

the opportunity to win some free stuff from behind the java

counter.

Newbie Teams T.J., Jodie Foster Fan Club and That Is A Very

Good Question (henceforth known as TIAVGQ) had some fun and

learned about the rigors of pub quizzing.  Veteran players

Team Finn, Pickles on a Plate, Rockafellers and Deadly Alliance

acted as mentors demonstrating both aplomb and Noblesse oblige

during the proceedings while simultaneously gobbling up the

higher scores.  Pickles won third place, Rockafellers got second

and the Deadly Alliance snapped up first place with a daring

Double-or-Nothing leap on the Round Five Find-the-Connection

round, getting all ten questions correct including making the

"connection"!  Great stuff!

Hats off once more to our quiz writers who provided us with

some distinct subjects and assorted querries.  This produced

some amusing responses to which Quiz Master Lou just had to

award some meaningless style points.  The Picture Round this

week required identifying the actual (Judge Judy) or fictional

(Judge Dredd) judge.  Nobody knew who Judge Mills Lane was from

his picture as a referee in the boxing ring so the guesses ranged

from Ernie Pechco (?) to Celebrity Death Match Judge.  Brit

actor Hugh Laurie got identified as Harvey Styles (whoever that

is) while Susan Lucci got pegged as Trixie Mattel (WTH?!?)

Finally, QM Lou won the "My Joke Fell Flat Award" when observing

that the difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission

is that fusion's by product is helium while fission produces

bass or trout.  (Silence)  Bass or trout?  (Crickets)

That's all I've got.  Have a great weekend!  QM Lou signing off...

Hello and Hi again!  Quiz Master Lou is reporting yet once

again and is most happy to tell you that King Trivia Pub Quiz

has added a brand new venue to its ranks!  I'm talking about

Dunn Brothers Coffee in Plano, just a stone's throw away from

the big fitness center with the gi-normous climbing wall in

the lobby.  (But don't actually throw any stones.  Glass, ya

know...)

While Dunn Brothers is a coffee shop, they also serve beer and

wine, as well as a very nice selection of ciders.  (QM Lou

had a couple of very tasty Crackberry's!)  Their sandwiches

looked pretty good, too!

Being the inaugrual quiz at Dunn Bros, we were very pleased

with the turnout.  Nine teams competed out on the patio in the

most conducive weather I think I've ever experienced.  A warm

and heartfelt thanks to three verteran quiz teams that followed

me over from the old place!  (You know who you are. [insert

Heart Emoticon]

Quiz Kalifa and Just Here for the Beer finished last amongst

the newbies.  Just Here for the Beer left early, possibly

because they finished their beers...  Deadly Alliance, Mavericks

and My Drinking Team Has a Trivia Problem filled out the middle

of the rakings.  Rockafellers trailed Pickles on a Plate all

evening until they overtook them in Round Six to snatch First

Place with a one point gap!  As befits such a momentous event

on an opening night, there was a Tie for third place between

Meow Mix and Team Finn, with the latter winning the tie breaker!

Drama, drama, drama, but the good kind.

Style points were awarded copiously as well.  Identifying

Sophia Loren for Elizabeth Taylor can be understandable?  The

Beatles' Apple Record label was mistook for Tangerine Records,

which upon research, QM Lou discovered was Ray Charles'.

Might have been the question of the week that set that off.

And how you get the Lincoln Tunnel instead of the Khyber Pass

is a mystery to me!  Speaking of mysteries, Witchy Poo was not

a member of the Scooby Gang!

That's all I got.  Have a great weekend and hope to see you at next

week's quiz!
