About Longmont Public House

When a fine dining Chef decides to take the edge off and open a classic Public House:

For years, I have worked and thrived in fine dining restaurants, and during the last few years I knew I wanted to open my own place. I dreamed of a restaurant that combined all the types and styles of food & beverage, as well as overall restaurant brands that I frequented the most – restaurants and pubs that provided excellence in consistency and quality at a fair price based on the overall experience and environment.

I knew I couldn’t’ let go of all the detail and intensity of running a fine dining restaurant, such as my love of the freshest product available, carefully cared for local ingredients and an educated staff to execute my service vision. I wanted to keep the things I liked about fine dining (service excellence, outstanding food quality, specialty cocktails, local craft beer, a thoughtful wine list, etc.) and dump all the stuffiness of fine dining; reservations, stiff, coarse service and a menu that requires exhaustive explanation with shocking prices.

The result is Longmont Public House, a Longmont restaurant and Longmont bar, named for the traditional pubs and local restaurants as a place that serves as an extension of our community gathering places for anyone seeking house made food and hand-crafted drink. The Longmont Public House menu plays to good food, delicious drinks and a warm, comfortable environment while applying the philosophy of top quality food products to a more casual dining setting. We present to you what we believe will take its place as the best restaurant in Longmont.

Tonight was a great night, starting with the room being so full that the Quizmaster had to delay the start of the game in order for one of our regular teams to be seated! The 8 teams included two first-timers who played on a lark and stayed through the end of the game. Kids Under The Table, standing in the foyer while awaiting their table, missed on a double-or-nothing in Round 1 and started with zero while all other 7 teams were tightly bunched within 2 points. Brown Chicken, Brown Cow and Longmont Analytica each successfully doubled down in Round 2 to jump ahead of the pack; Kids Under The Table, Sass Club, #momjeans and Paging Rick Stoner all hit a double in Round 3 making for a tightly-bunched field (1st place was 29 pts., 7th place was 20). A score of -1 in the Guess Who round dropped Rick Stroner out of the running while the rest of the field stayed closely grouped, while successful doubles by The Kids, rown Chicken and #momjeans separated those 3 fro the pack. No fewer than 5 teams successfully doubles in the Handout (Not your average Karaoke" round (Freedom of 76 also got all ten but did not double down), leaving 5 teams within plausible range of winning entering the final round; a failed double attempt dropped Longmont Analytica out of the running.

Sass Club (with a constitutional scholar in their ranks) and Longmont Analytica each successfully doubled in Round 7, naming all 9 Supreme Court Justices. Brown Chicken, in position to win, got 8 of 9 but chose to double and finished, painfully, 4 points back in 3rd place. The Kids Under The Table, who started the night with a zero, came all the way back, and their 8 points in the final round was enough to edge Sass Club by a point for the win. It was arguably the best night ever at the LPH, and certainly the most competitive. Looking forward to doing it again next week!

All in all there were five teams that went wire-to-wire tonight, with another that started but left early and another that joined in late. Erstwhile regulars Ritt Momson returned after a brief absence, and the contest started out as a five tema race, then narrowed to four and eventually it came down to #momjeans, Longmont Analytica and Ritt Momson fighting for the honors. #momjeans were the mostconsistent team, scoring 8in four different rounds, while Longmont Analytica fell far off the early pace after failing twice to convert a double-or-nothing for 0 points. Ritt Momson and #momjeans were well clear of therest of the filed throug 5 rounds, but Longmont Analytica hit a double-or-nothing in the theme round to leap to within 1 point of 2nd place. #momjeans & Ritt Momson each scored 8 & 4 in the final two rounds to stay clear of the pack, but Longmont Analytica managed 9 & 5 to edge past Ritt Momson for 2nd place by a point; #momjeans claimed the win by 2.

On the commercial side, the LPH manager told me that business had been slow until all the trivia teams showed up; it just goes to show you what a charismatic, charming quizmaster can do. 😉 It was a fun evening, see you all next week!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average

There was apparently a problem with the KT website last week as I submitted a recap (twice!) but it never was posted. The greatness of momjens on this night deserves recognition, as the ladies went-wire to wire for a crushing victory, by a margin of 27 points!#momjeans hit a double-or-nothing right out of the gate and never looked back; their 20 points on a subsequent double-or-nothing in the theme round put matters beyond doubt. In fact #momjeans had mathematically clinched after 6 rounds. Paging Rick Stoner stumbled in round 1 (3 points) but were strong through the middle rounds and finished second despite faltering near the end. Longmont Analytica came on strong at the end but finished two points out of 2nd place. This night, however, was all about #momjeans.

Let's do it again next week!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 13541 #momjeans 62 3 1.000
2 13382 Paging Rick Stoner 35 2 0.667
