About Longmont Public House

When a fine dining Chef decides to take the edge off and open a classic Public House:

For years, I have worked and thrived in fine dining restaurants, and during the last few years I knew I wanted to open my own place. I dreamed of a restaurant that combined all the types and styles of food & beverage, as well as overall restaurant brands that I frequented the most – restaurants and pubs that provided excellence in consistency and quality at a fair price based on the overall experience and environment.

I knew I couldn’t’ let go of all the detail and intensity of running a fine dining restaurant, such as my love of the freshest product available, carefully cared for local ingredients and an educated staff to execute my service vision. I wanted to keep the things I liked about fine dining (service excellence, outstanding food quality, specialty cocktails, local craft beer, a thoughtful wine list, etc.) and dump all the stuffiness of fine dining; reservations, stiff, coarse service and a menu that requires exhaustive explanation with shocking prices.

The result is Longmont Public House, a Longmont restaurant and Longmont bar, named for the traditional pubs and local restaurants as a place that serves as an extension of our community gathering places for anyone seeking house made food and hand-crafted drink. The Longmont Public House menu plays to good food, delicious drinks and a warm, comfortable environment while applying the philosophy of top quality food products to a more casual dining setting. We present to you what we believe will take its place as the best restaurant in Longmont.

Tonight ended in the first tie since I've been conducting these contests in Longmont.  MGBK and The Kids Under The Table hit the double-or-nothing in Round 1 for 12 points (as did #momjeans) and were never separated by more than 2 points for the duration of the evening. Even more impressive is the fact that MGBK took a zero in Round 3 (getting 5 out of six on a double-or-nothing bid) and still ended up winning the night.  #momjeans faltered late and RittMomson made up 7 points in the last two rounds to edge #momjeans by a single point for third; it was between MGBK and The Kids Under The Table to decide the night.  Those two teams entered the final round tied, and each got 5 out of 10 in the Round 7 to finish level with 48 points.  Both teams guessed too high in answering the tiebreaker but MGBK were closer to take the honors.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1* 13380 MGBK 49 5 1.000
2 13225 The Kids Under The Table 48 4 0.800

The frigid temperatures (12 degrees) kept the attendance down but four teams showed up and fought the good fight.  First-timers Hospital for Bill stumbled upon Trivia Night and finished two points out of first place; I bet they wish they had registered!  Sass Club (a two-person team!) were most consistent and edged further ahead at each stage until Hospital for Bill and Paging Rick Stoner each successfully converted a double-or-nothing in Round 6 for 20 points and ensured a tight finish.  Sass Club and Hospital for Bill each doubled down on the second half of round 7, and in the end the 2 bonus points earned by Sass Club were the margin of victory.  On a personal note, it was this Quizmaster's honor to meet the man, the legend, the one and only Rick Stoner himself.  A good time was had by all tonight, and warmer temps will surely lead to larger numbers next week!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 13767 Sass club 52 3 1.000
2 Hospital for Bill 50 2 0.667
3 13382 Paging Rick Stoner 47 1 0.333
4 13764 Cylons 35 0 0.000

First timers Illini came in for dinner, thought Trivia Night sounded like fun....and won!  On a night which saw every team getzero on a double-or-nothing attempt at least once, The Kids Under The Table jumped out in front by successfully completing a double-or-nothing Theme Round 3.  The Illini moved ahead by converting a double-or-nothing in Round 5 (as did Brown Chicken, Brown Cow), and Illini, Brown Chicken and The Kids separated themselves from the pack at that point to fight for the honors.  Illini were the most consistent team throughout and cruised home by 3 points to claim the first prize $20 gift card.  Brown Chicken, Brown Cow were runners-up ($15) and The Kids Under The Table finished third ($10). A good time was had by all, and all contestants promised to be back in two weeks (after a break next Wednesday for Valentine's Day).
