About Longmont Public House

When a fine dining Chef decides to take the edge off and open a classic Public House:

For years, I have worked and thrived in fine dining restaurants, and during the last few years I knew I wanted to open my own place. I dreamed of a restaurant that combined all the types and styles of food & beverage, as well as overall restaurant brands that I frequented the most – restaurants and pubs that provided excellence in consistency and quality at a fair price based on the overall experience and environment.

I knew I couldn’t’ let go of all the detail and intensity of running a fine dining restaurant, such as my love of the freshest product available, carefully cared for local ingredients and an educated staff to execute my service vision. I wanted to keep the things I liked about fine dining (service excellence, outstanding food quality, specialty cocktails, local craft beer, a thoughtful wine list, etc.) and dump all the stuffiness of fine dining; reservations, stiff, coarse service and a menu that requires exhaustive explanation with shocking prices.

The result is Longmont Public House, a Longmont restaurant and Longmont bar, named for the traditional pubs and local restaurants as a place that serves as an extension of our community gathering places for anyone seeking house made food and hand-crafted drink. The Longmont Public House menu plays to good food, delicious drinks and a warm, comfortable environment while applying the philosophy of top quality food products to a more casual dining setting. We present to you what we believe will take its place as the best restaurant in Longmont.

Tonight's contest was a two-horse race from the outset, with The Kids Under The Table and #Momjeans separating themselves from the (crowded) field from the outset.  Brown Chicken, Brown Cow held off a lat challenge from 3rd Is The New First and edged the latter by a point for third; Paging Rick Stoner could not overcome the -1 they took in the Guess Who round but steadied themselves late to claim 5th place.  The Kids Under The Table and #Momjeans each hit on a double-or-nothing in Round 2 to distance themselves from the field; in fact those teams had identical scores in rounds 1,2, 4, 5 & 6.  The Kids Under The Table gained a single point advantage in round 3 and held it until round 7.  The Kids outscored #Momjeans 3-2 in that final round to win by 2 and claim the $25 gift card.

Tonight saw a full house at the Longmont Public House, and a fun and spirited contest too; Rick Stoner himself was in the house.  The quizmaster thanks the team that bought him a beer, and hopes to see everyone back again next week!

Tonight's contest was a runaway from the outset, as #momjeans converted successful double-or-nothings in each of the first two rounds; they jumped 7 points in front of Kids Under The Table and Spork after Round 1, and their 16 points in Round 2 moved them a full 17 points in front of Kids Under The Table (and 18 in front of Spork).  Kids Under The Table made up 6 points in Round 4 (getting all 10 right) to close to within  11 points but #momjeans held steady by scoring 8 in Round 5 and 10 in Round 6, effectively ending the competition early.  Spork were consistent throughout but could not catch Kids Under The Table for second after the latter's 10 point successes in the Guess Where and Handout rounds.  First-timers πFive (choosing a name to honor Pi Day) could not overcome a zero from a failed double-or-nothing in Round 3 followed by a -1 in the Guess Where round, but they found their footing as the game went on; their 6 correct answers in Round 7 were twice as many as any other team's.  #momjeans cruised home in first place (for the $25 gift card) while Kids Under The Table held on for second and $15, with Spork taking third.

Your humble Quizmaster thanks the team that bought him a beer, but impartiality ruled the day!

Tonight was never a contest, as last week's last-place finishers Brown Chicken, Brown Cow hit on a double-or-nothing in Round 1  to jump 8 points clear of the field and were never threatened thereafter; they led by 9 points after 2 rounds, by 10 after 3 rounds and by 9 after 4 rounds.  Brown Chicken, Brown Cow got all ten right in Round 5 to pretty much end the suspense, leaving Cylons and Chicken Dinner to vie for second place (both Sass Club and #momjeans took a -1 in Round 5 and a zero on a 9-out-of-10 double-or-nothing bid in Round 6 to fall out of contention).  Chicken Dinner fell 2 points behind Cylons after Round 6 but made up that deficit in Round 7, forcing a tiebreaker for 2nd place.  Cylons were much closer with their answer and finished runners-up.

Tonight's contest was "sponsored" by Boulder Beer, which gave out prizes to the top three finishers.  As always The Longmont Public House gave out gift cards to the top 3 teams ($20, $15 and $10); tonight Boulder Beer gave away swag to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers and a case of Boulder Beer to the winners, Brown Chicken, Brown Cow....as if the glory of winning Trivia Night weren't enough!
