About Longmont Public House

When a fine dining Chef decides to take the edge off and open a classic Public House:

For years, I have worked and thrived in fine dining restaurants, and during the last few years I knew I wanted to open my own place. I dreamed of a restaurant that combined all the types and styles of food & beverage, as well as overall restaurant brands that I frequented the most – restaurants and pubs that provided excellence in consistency and quality at a fair price based on the overall experience and environment.

I knew I couldn’t’ let go of all the detail and intensity of running a fine dining restaurant, such as my love of the freshest product available, carefully cared for local ingredients and an educated staff to execute my service vision. I wanted to keep the things I liked about fine dining (service excellence, outstanding food quality, specialty cocktails, local craft beer, a thoughtful wine list, etc.) and dump all the stuffiness of fine dining; reservations, stiff, coarse service and a menu that requires exhaustive explanation with shocking prices.

The result is Longmont Public House, a Longmont restaurant and Longmont bar, named for the traditional pubs and local restaurants as a place that serves as an extension of our community gathering places for anyone seeking house made food and hand-crafted drink. The Longmont Public House menu plays to good food, delicious drinks and a warm, comfortable environment while applying the philosophy of top quality food products to a more casual dining setting. We present to you what we believe will take its place as the best restaurant in Longmont.

Tonight was a wild one, starting with the fact that there were 10 teams and the room was packed.  Further adding to the weirdness, longtimers Paging Rick Stoner returned after 2 weeks' absence to find themselves challenged by a new rival team that included Rick Stoner himself! Things then got off to a scorching start when no fewer than 5 teams converted a double-or-nothing in Round 1.  Three of those teams converted a second double in Round 2 to separate themselves from the pack: Longmont Analytica, #momjeans and MGBK all took the maximum 28 points from the first two rounds to move 9 points clear of their nearest competitors.  The ersatz-Stoner team atoned for their failed double-or-nothing in Round 1 with a successful double in Round 3, but their -1 for a failed guess in the Guess Who round effectively ended their night.  Meanwhile the 3 leaders all scored 5 in Round 3 to remain level.  Longmont Analytica dropped back with a failed guess in the Guess Who round (and its attendant -1 score) but surged back in front with a successful double in the theme round and cruised home to victory.  #momjeans scored 8 points in each of the final 3 rounds to claim second, beating out third-place finishers MGBK by 5 points.  Paging Rick Stoner, languishing well off the pace for most of the night, converted a double for 20 points in Round 7 to finish just 2 points outside the top 3.  The atmosphere was gret tonight, and the questions were excellent.  Looking forward to another great evening next week!

Tonight was unusual all around.  First of all, only two teams showed up; yours truly misses one week and everyone bails! There was some controversy around a couple of answers, which was in every case amicably resolved.  And finally, one team jumped out to a big lead, was overtaken and then rallied to win at the end. Mainstays The Kids Under The Table and #momjeans made it an entertaining night. Both teams went for the double-or-nothing right out of the gate, and #momjeans protested (after getting a zero) that there is a Picasso museum in Madrid.  They were right; there is a MUSEO Picasso in Madrid, as well as one in Malaga (and there is a Musee Picasso in Paris).  But the MUSEU Picasso is in Barcelona.  Kids Under The Table were off to an immediate 12-0 lead.  Both teams completed a successful double-or-nothing in Round 2, and each scored 5 (of 6) in Round 3.  #momjeans correctly answered the 10-point clue in the Guess Who round, and halved their deficit to 6 points; when they successfully converted a double-or-nothing in the very difficult Round 5 theme round (and made 15 points all at once), they went from 6 points behind to 9 points in front.  It was at this point that The Kids Under The Table went for broke, converting double-or-nothings in Rounds 6 & 7; #momjeans posted respectable scores of 8 & 9 in those rounds but had to settle for 2nd place as The Kids jumped from -9 to +14 to take the honors.

With only two teams participating, the rounds flew by quickly, allowing for more time to breathe and ponder the questions; that said, we look forward to another full house next week!

It was a dark and stormy night, and a nip and tuck battle at the LPH which saw #Momjeans squeak out a 1 point victory.  Brown Chicken, Brown Cow matched the winners for a double in round 2, whiffed on a greek tragedy on round 3,  and couldn't pull the trigger to double round 6 plot spoilers and almost came up with enough domestic beers but fell just short to second.  Newcomer TPR's had a strong showing to take bronze while Table for four? and Mean Machine tied but had fun anyway.  I shuttled in from Steamboat Springs as Gil was delayed on a trip out of state but he will be back to lead the merriment next Wednesday - it was fun to run the game for you all tonight! Sorry I spaced out getting some photos 🙁
