QUIZ RECAP

The humid night at Tubby Hook Tavern looked like it would be a largely forgettable one at first, but as we saw with Hurricane Henri last weekend, when it rains, it pours. What appeared to be a low key night at 7:45 turned into 8 teams battling it out by 8:00, 3 of whom were playing at Tubby Hook for the very first time.

One of those new teams, Icebox, cautiously approached the Quizmaster's table before the game started and asked to enter, meekly declaring "I don't even know if we'll stay the whole time." Wouldn't you know it, they ended up pulling off a second place finish in the very last round finishing just above Sharper Than Peas, who went for it all with a Double or Nothing on the last round and came up with nothing.

After Round 5 though, it was KiwiPaisa's world and everyone else was just living in it as they hit their Double or Nothing en route to an easy first place finish - not a bad night for two ladies celebrating their 3rd anniversary together!

While there was one instance of something yelling out an answer to a question - "What is a four letter word for an opera solo?" - it turned out to be entirely understandable, as the duo who entered late were actually both opera singers overcome with enthusiasm to see their art represented.

Trivia made its return to Tubby Hook Tavern last week, so the question on everyone's mind for its second week back was would momentum build or would there be a sophomore slump?

When question #1 in Round 1 was finally read shortly after 8PM with 10 teams signed up, the answer to that question was resoundingly clear. Many of the teams who played were first timers, so they were willing to look past the opening night jitters of the first-time Quizmaster who had an inadvertent mic drop moment when he, uh...inadvertently dropped the mic.

Scores were close for the first few rounds, but it was basically a two team race by the time of the final round. When it was all said and done, a good time was had by all even if none of them had any idea who Mason "The Line" Dixon was.

The return of trivia to Tubby Hook! Unexpected thunderstorms couldn't stop this quiz, we had five teams join and were thrilled with the new Scoring App. 

It was a back-and-forth game as teams experimented with the Double-or-Nothing feature, as it catapulted teams up and down the standings. We listened to 80s jams between rounds, and I even offended a few folks by letting them know I was born in the 80s.

When the final scores were read, the teams clapped for each other's perfromances. It was very touching and just shows the power of trivia to bring total strangers together in a bar. Can't wait to see this venue grow into its full potential and teams become sassy regulars.
