To the ever-so-welcoming King Trivia regulars at The Lumberyard: I owe you an apology. For the reasons below, and so many others, I'm sorry.
1. I'm sorry that I'm not your regular host, Kari. She left some big shoes to fill, and I hope I was a perfectly adequate temporary replacement. (For real, though, this bar has some capital-L Loyal players -- what a great group!)
2. I'm sorry that after a first round domination by Flag Hags and an early Double-or-Nothing victory in Round 2 by Lime Skittles, the competition decided they just couldn't compete with your 110-horsepower brains. The rest of the game was a one-to-one showdown between these two true powerhouse teams, and it was every bit as thrilling as a full house would have been.
3. Speaking of Round 2, I'm sorry for all the sportsball questions. They hurt me more than they hurt you.
4. I'm sorry for reminding you all that Batman vs. Superman : Dawn of Justice was a thing during our Round 4 "Guess Who." Mentioning The Bodyguard up front would have been a dead giveaway that neither team needed, as they both correctly guessed Kevin Costner on the 6-point clue. Nice work, super sleuths!
5. I'm sorry for all the Risk-y business in round 7, which required both teams to name the North American territories on a Risk board. While both teams struggled with this incredibly tough round (Greenland? Really?), I awarded a bonus point for Flag Hag's creative addition to the list. The Quizmaster is always right, after all.
6. Most of all, I'm sorry for giving you all my personal WiFi password with a mic in my hand. Now someone keeps watching Friends my Netflix account, and my browser history has gotten real weird. It's just that I couldn't help myself -- I had to call out our eventual winning team, Lime Skittles, for their great taste in monikers.
All in all, two whip-smart teams, some great tunes in the background, and -- of course -- plenty of drinks, made the evening one to remember. Great game to our second-place finisher, Flag Hags, and champions Lime Skittles, and thank you for the genuinely warm welcome.
Hope to see everyone again at the Lumber Yard, 8pm on Tuesdays -- though I may not be hosting, I certainly will be back to visit!

King Trivia at The Lumber Yard is the best way to escape the rain!
In a tough Round 1, teams faced a wide variety of general knowledge questions that kept anyone from correctly answering all six questions.
But Round 2 proved to be much more aligned to our teams' areas of expertise. Not only did We Can Make It If We Try know all six famous pets, and the TV show they "lived" on, they pulled far ahead of the pack with a total of 16 points with the help of the Double-or-Nothing option.
In Round 3, it was Lime Skittles who flexed their skills and their confidence, answering all six questions about Hawaii correctly and also going Double-or-Nothing.
For Round 4, usually the toughest round of the night, we were back to the good old "Guess Who?" version of the round. No team offered a guess after the 10 point clue, but newcomers 3 Guys 1 Cup knew I was describing Academy Award Winner Octavia Spencer after the next clue for 8 points!
By Round 5, scores were getting closer among the teams. Both Vince and Lime Skittles correctly answered most questions, and knew the common thread was "flowers/gardening" and snagged 9 points for the round. But it was heartbreak for last week's champs, Flag Hags who tried to go Double or Nothing, but confused their Marvel superheroes and ended up with zero points for round 5.
Round 6 showed we had quite a few fans of British slang. 3 Guys 1 Cup, Lime Skittles, and Flag Hags all got every answer right! But, Lime Skittles and Flag Hags added 20 points to their total by checking the Double-or-Nothing box!
The final round of the night offered a different approach than weeks past. But, the change up didn't prove too tough of a challenge for the teams. We Can Make It If We Try were successful in getting all 10 possible answers correct - and doubled up for 20 points!
In the end though, it was Lime Skittles who found themselves back on top with 64 points! We Can Make It If We Try finished in 2nd with 58 points, and Flag Hags finished in 3rd with 43 points!
Thanks as always, Lumber Yard. We'll see ya'll next week - same time, same place!

3 | 20301 | Flag Hags | 43 | 2 | 0.500 |

Double-or-Nothing can make you or break you. This week, it broke a lot of hearts. 🙁
With tonight's Round 1, teams started strong showing off their general knowledge skills and nearly completely nailing questions ranging across country music star hygiene practices to the latest and greatest in fast-food popup hotel resorts. But it was Flag Hags who lept out to an impressive lead, getting all six answers right and opting to Double-or-Nothing for a total of 12 points.
Round 2 proved to be much more difficult for teams as they needed to know the exact names of 8 different animated (film, tv and video game) characters. Lime Skittles came the closest to perfection, getting seven of the eight correct!
"Popping" on to Round 3, the questions or answers of this round had a "pop" theme. Due to a lack of K-Pop wisdom at the Lumber Yard, newcomers Penetrative Friends were burned on their first try at Double-or-Nothing and failed to collect any points for the round. We also welcomed a late entry, B-Squared to the game who snagged four points in their first round.
Switching gears for Round 4, teams needed to identify a famous thing, this time around, rather than a specific person. After the first round of clues, for 10 possible points, both Lime Skittles and Penetrative Friends submitted their answer. But sadly, I wasn't describing Schindler's List. Flag Hags waited until the 8 point clues before turning in their guess, and Vince continued to show how waiting can pay off in this round - submitting the correct answer, Pulp Fiction for 4 points.
We headed to the tropics for Round 5 with questions yielding answers with an island theme. B-Squared, hoping to make up for not catching rounds one and 2 checked the Double-or-Nothing box, but missed after getting one of the answers incorrect.
Round 6 again showed that Double-or-Nothing can be a fickle friend. Connecting the characters with the film they narrated proved to be an easy feat for the Flag Hags and Vince, who scored 9 points. But Lime Skittles couldn't find all the right matches after checking the Double-or-Nothing box, and got zero for the round.
Flag Hags held their lead going into the final round, but there was still a chance a few different teams could get all 10 of the possible answers correct and double-up to finish the night on top. Unfortunately, no team could name 10 of the top 11 countries with the largest Islamic populations. And while the end of the game meant we had clear 1st and 2nd place finishers, Lime Skittles and Penetrative Friends found themselves in a tie for 3rd.
Penetrative Friends and Lime Skittles faced-off in a winner-takes-third battle. In the end, the team who correctly guessed the population of the state of Texas, according to the 1990 census, (Price is Right style, closest without going over) was Penetrative Friends!
So there we had it - Flag Hags reclaimed the top spot this week with a total of 57 points. Vince, finished in 2nd with 36 points. And Penetrative Friends finished with 34+the tie breaker.
Thanks for another awesome night, Lumber Yard friends. See ya'll next week - same time, same place!
