Boo! Halloween season is upon us, as the first chilly night of Autumn put a delicious chill in the air out on the Pitfire patio last night. So gather around the fire pit, friends, and I'll tell you about last night's quiz.
A Team Has No Name jumped out to a quick lead after doubling in Round 1, but The Lost Boys doubled on the Round 2 picture round to take the lead position. How long did they stay on top? Not long at all! The Boys got stung with an unsuccessful double on Round 3, which allowed perennial powerhouse Westeros Baptist Church to take over first place - by a single point over A Team Has No Name and Trivia Science Theater 3000.
First time players Team Pink Taco made their move in Round 4, pulling even with the Westeros clan with identical mid-game scores of 28. Indeed, Pink Taco made a contest out of it all the way to the end, but it was Westeros for the win after doubling successfully in Rounds 5 and 6, and going all Gaga in Round 7 by correctly naming ten of Lady G's top ten hits.
The Pinksters still managed to snag a solid second place, and the smiles on their faces (photos 5 & 6 above) are solid evidence that they enjoyed their success immensely. See y'all next week.

If you take a look at our League Play LEADER BOARD, you'll notice Westeros Baptist Church among the League leaders. They're a formidable crew, to be sure, and they demonstrated their incredible trivia powers again last night on the Pitfire patio. A pair of well-executed doubles in the 5th and 6th rounds led to a final total of 76, and the win.
Mystery Diners might have given the Westeros crew a closer run for their money, if their attempt to double in the first round had been successful. Alas, it wasn't, and though they doubled successfully in the 2nd and 5th rounds, it wasn't enough to overcome that first round goose egg. Nevertheless, they till finished 2nd for the night with 60 points. Kudos, Mystery kids.
The best trivia teams live (and occasionally die) by the double-or-nothing risk. Last week's winners, Trivia Science Theater 3000 got stung on the 3rd round double, but came back strong with a successful Round 6, and finished up with 57 points and the third place trophy.
(Okay, there aren't really any trophies. But there was a gift card for all three winners, not to mention the satisfying congratulatory hand shake from Quizmaster Tim. Heck, that's better than a gift card, right!?)
I can't finish this recap without giving an honorable mention shout-out to the fine folks of Suck It, Trebeck! (That's one of 'em there in photo #1) They didn't finish in the top three, but they did outperform everyone in the tough Round 7 that asked for the top 10 milk producing states in the US. Good job, kids!
And kudos, as well, to team Those Aren't Pillows!, because John Candy and Steve Martin always make me laugh. See ya next week!

It was a beautiful, balmy, picture-perfect mid-summer's evening out on the Pitfire patio last night. Of course, it wasn't mid-summer at all! It was autumn, and the "cool night air" was 143 degrees in the shade, and global warming is real, and WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!
Oops, Sorry. Got a little carried away there. Back to the recap!
Last night's winners were a pair of pugilistic puzzle solvers that go by the name Mystery Science Theater 3000. Take a look at photo #2 (just after the shot of the big, burning sun that will soon melt our ice caps and KILL US ALL!!) to get a good look at Pat and Kara.
Kara's the brains of the outfit, I suspect, after I overheard her saying, "I TOLD you it was OMAN!" right after Round 2 answers were announced. Oh! Man! Anyway, they won the night fair and square over the Detective Trivia Benson folks, who expressed their displeasure quite clearly in the #6 photo!
A BIG shout out to Gaby, Kelsey, Don, Sarah and Elliott - collectively known as Westeros Baptist Church. These guys are one of our strongest teams, and stand tall in our Tournament Rankings, though they finished fourth in last night's contest.
So, to review...what country shares its border with Saudi Arabia and Yemen?
I told you! It's Oman! Right, Kara!?
See ya out on the patio next week!
