DISNEYLAND THEMED EVENT RECAP

Wow! What a whirlwind of a night! I feel like I just got off of the teacups and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin! Everything went by so fast due to the sheer amount of Disney passion and craziness in that room. Answer sheets were flying out faster than the papers at the Animation Academy and I felt like I was getting more questions than Crush in his aquatorium...but all in good fun!

I thought that if I had played, I would have done pretty well myself, but I was quickly put into place by Magic Happens who asked about the Animatronic from Mission to Mars by informing me that it had been redressed from a previous attraction, so she wasn't sure which one to go with...which is something I did not know!

But the Chernabog was in the details tonight as several teams got tripped up on the smaller things that make Disneyland so great. In Round 6, Humphrey's Service and Supplies as well as Oswald's Gas & Oil foiled a bunch of Double or Nothing's as many teams thought that one of them was found in Cars Land. Our drinking round - the first team to write down and submit every land in Disneyland and neighborhood/land in California Adventure - saw the first few teams to try their answer overlook Pacific Wharf...meaning they could go drown their sorrows in a bread bowl later.

Round 7 saw many hairs being split over what constituted an attraction, so I tried to be as specifically vague as possible in clarifying. Despite thinking it could enough to be open on opening day of Disneyland, Casey Jr. frustrated a lot of people since it "re-opened" later down the road, but still technically counted. And another good amount of Double or Nothing's were toppled by Dumbo, who did not receive his flying feather until about a month after Disneyland opened. This resulted in The Childless Millennials losing out on a perfect run, and one of the highest-scoring nights I've ever seen!

Couple shout-outs to give:

  • Congratulations to our Top 3 teams and the winners for the evening: The Childless Millennials won the pot, with Twelve Park Club eking out a second place victory by getting closer to the total number of horses on the Carrousel, and Great Moments with Mr. Thinkin' taking home third prize.
  • The spirit award for the evening went to Bring Back Ghost Galaxy 2019 for their upbeat attitudes, great Disney shirts and costumes, homage to a bug's land with one of their Heimlich headbands (which their normal team name is dedicated to), and masks brought straight from D23! Certainly a bunch of certified and proud Disney nerds!
  • Best team name of the night has to go to No One Mansplains Like Gaston. Very clever and definitely got the biggest laugh when reading off the point totals.

Thank you for playing tonight, everybody! Have a magical rest of your days! Until next time!

QUIZ RECAP

Another Tuesday, another round of trivia at Slater's 50/50! And tonight saw the return of Atari Kobayashi after an extended absence! Welcome back, you two!

The night got off to a fairly even start in Round 1, but Concentration Breathing's inability to distinguish a duck from a goose cost them a Double or Nothing in Round 2 and set them back, from which they would not recover...

After a quick Wikipedia/Google sesh to verify that the Rockies are, indeed, the longest mountain range within the US (even without its Canadian extension), most teams were quick to figure out that Raven-Symone could be the only child actress from The Cosby Show that would make sense, and so they all walked off with 8 points in Round 4!

The following rounds saw a sponsorship and a reminder from our Disneyland-themed night coming up on Sunday (hosted by yours truly!) and confusion between German and Austrian desserts, but it all came down to Matt Damon...much to Jimmy Kimmel's dismay. This was a grab bag of answers that saw some learns in the form of both Ocean's Thirteen and The Bourne Identity not making as much money as the rest of their respective franchises.

But in the end, Mike Tyson's Speech School walked away with the grand prize once again! Newcomers to Slater's, The Mutants over at Table 9 made a comeback with a Double or Nothing in Round 5 (thanks, Disney!) to clinch second place with The Implication rounding out our Top 3 after debating whether or not Matt Damon was in Interstellar (he was).

Great job tonight, teams! And just remember, between Saving Private Ryan, The Martian, and Interstellar (all answers in Round 7, btw), the United States has spent billions of dollars rescuing Matt Damon.

See you next time!

On such a low-scoring night, we're usually rife with excellently hilarious answers for the amusement of all...and tonight was no exception! Though Mike Tyson's Speech School walked away the winners and Double Shot had to do the walk of shame with no gift card, there were plenty of laughs to be had this evening. Below are some of my favorite answers from the night.

  • The wife of one of the Beatles: Beyonc? (Double Shot)
  • DVD box cover art for TV shows: four guesses for "The Sopranos"...none of which were right (Baby Cheeses)
  • The Implication tragically changed their correct answer of "Better Call Saul" to "Breaking Bad"...so close...
  • Best Picture guess: Wild Wild West (Double Shot)
  • Who could forget Shakespeare's most famous play? No, not Hamlet or Romeo & Juliet...I'm speaking of 4 Score & Seven Nights! This recently unearthed play was brought to you by The Implication.

And then we all had fun creating connections between acids and the leaders of North Korea...which I'm guessing you can figure out on your own...

Thanks for a fun night, all! See you next week!
