Tonight's game was awesome. We had such great questions, and it was just fun learning these new facts! On some questions, no one knew the answer to, but overall the questions in the rounds weren't too hard!
From the start, we didn't have anyone double down or get all 6 questions correct, but starting from round 2, Mike Tyson's Speech School doubled down and was in the lead with a total of 16 points. Throughout the entire game, Mike Tyson's Speech School was in the lead, almost dominating the game. First place was almost certain them. 2nd place looked promising for Here For the Beer up until round 7! Right at round seven, due to a Lord of the Rings question, Foxy Ladies doubled down and snatched the 2nd place title.
Great game, great people, and great food!

You know, I always look at trivia night as a learning experience. If you don't know the answers, you learn something new! But tonight, the four teams playing learned five very important lessons that they will carry with them forevermore. And those lessons are as follows:
1. Right off the bat, how to spell "Mahershala Ali". There were some rather...creative spellings. 'Nuff said.
2. Paul Simon is not the same person as Paul McCartney, even if their careers did echo each other in the on case where they both went solo.
3. Always read through the entire word bank on Round 6! Uffda discovered the hard way that Cristiano Ronaldo was a much better answer (since it was right) than Lionel Messi, which ended up costing them a Double or Nothing in that round.
4. If you feeling pretty confident, then double down! Round 6 could've been a blessing for Lady Cooper but they chose not to risk their points, which prevented them from taking first later on, even with a successful Double in Round 7. Round 6 thus became a curse for them just as it did for Uffda...
5. Never give up! The Hellcatz fell behind and they became understandably distracted once their food came, but with some prodding they got back into it and rallied for a third place finish!
But even after all of those hard lessons were learned, Mike Tyson's Speech School (make sure you're saying it with the lisp!) ended up taking home their second win in a row with three successful Double or Nothings throughout the night!
Great job, all! Thanks for a chill night and I'll see you all next week!

'Twas a dark and cold night in Southern California (so warm and brisk for the rest of the country), so the nearby trivia fans flocked to Slater's 50/50 for some beers, burgers, and eventual brain farts...but also a fun evening with a great turnout!
Throughout the night I was corrected on two teams' pronunciations. First, Barley Knowledgeable I was pronouncing as barely knowledgeable...which can be seen as an insult. And Mike Tyson's Speech School required the use of his famous lisp...so I happily obliged.
The first two rounds kept everyone fairly even, except for the fact that multiple teams included Game of Thrones as one of their answers for the dragons despite it not being a film. I know it's HBO, guys, but learn the difference! Haha, maybe I was just excited that I knew the one from Eragon despite the fact that most of the book fans pretend that movie doesn't exist.
But I digress...Round 4 was a tour de force tonight with not one, not two, but three 10-point answers! I hardly get one, so this was amazing! And not a single team got less than 6 points on this round, so clearly they all know their Drake. He would be so proud.
Struggling a little further back, 905th Place Last Season made up a ton of ground in Round 5 with nine correct answers! They only missed Sky News, so apparently they need to watch more British journalism. And shout out to My Couch Pulls Out, But I Don't for guessing the theme was "water"...which is blue, so close but no cigar.
In the end, the dust settled and Mike Tyson's Speech School took home the top prize for the second week in a row! Rounding out our top 3 were 905th Place Last Season and OC Ladies. Congratulations to everyone who played and thanks for playing! Now go home and play some Clue to brush up on those room names. None of us may live in mansions, so we don't just have a Billiard Room, but we can dream, right?
See you all next week!
