This was truly a night for back and forths going on all over the place! Teams were constantly edging each other out for the Top 3 spots throughout the game, and the fun got started almost immediately!
Be More Pacific shot out of the gate with a Double or Nothing thanks to some impressive knowledge of the Arrowverse on The CW (come on, guys, it's superheroes on TV! everyone should be watching that!!) but then fell into a rut that lasted for a few rounds.
Mike Tyson's Speech School did the best with identifying movies that wrestlers have starred in using their awesome knowledge of all things WWE (a category they continue to want more of...but there is a slight bias there, so...). They also did Khaleesi proud by answering the most questions right about dragons!
Round 4 showed me that plenty of people have watched Lion King 2: Simba's Pride since that's the movie containing Simba's daughter's romance...don't judge me. But then came the dreaded Round 5, and in a first for me since coming to Slater's, not a single team got the category figured out. Curse you, Beatles!! To be fair, there were some hard questions in this round...but if you knew there was a Yellow Submarine outside of the Liverpool Airport, then my questions would be 1) how on earth do you know that??? and 2) why didn't you get the category as "Beatles songs"??? Luckily, our castle-identifying Round 6 came through for almost everyone and rectified some point totals.
Round 7 was an oldie but a goodie: naming all of the multi-word state capitals. A question that everyone knows the answer to...the trick is remembering them. And this is what created several come-from-behind victories on the part of Be More Pacific and Love Your Socks Off (a team name I helped them come up with, combining Team Love with Knock Your Socks Off...I'm so clever!). Son o' Buoys had cashed in on a Double or Nothing in the previous round, landing them in a solid 2nd Place overall, but the previously mentioned teams each DoN'd, with Be More Pacific launching themselves into a well-deserved 1st!
Love Your Socks Off then had to engage in a tiebreaker with Mike Tyson's Speech School, which is always exciting! But due to Price is Right rules, Mike Tyson's Speech School was eliminated for going over and for the first time in weeks forfeited their Top 3 spot to Love Your Socks Off, a team that went from "You ruined our night" with the harder rounds to "This was a blast!" in the final!
Thanks for playing, everybody! And congrats to the Top 3! See you all next week!

After a long holiday weekend, there's nothing better than relaxing with a nice game of trivia and a cool drink, and our teams tonight were well aware.
Early rounds were split as both teams leaned on their strengths or fought against their weaknesses, but in the end experience won out as Slater's regulars Baby Chico edged out the Warner St. Babes for a final victory.

Turns out I can get a job as a town crier (are those still a thing?...I'm gonna go with "yes") since I had to use my stage voice tonight due to a mix-up with the PA system! Hopefully people didn't mind me yelling questions at them, but if Billy Eichner can get away with it then so can I!
Points-wise, it looks like not using a microphone actually helped our house team, Mike Tyson's Speech School, since this was one of their highest-scoring nights yet! They got the ball rolling with a Round 1 Double or Nothing and nobody could catch up to them. Both they and Area 51 used a DoN on the infamous Round 5 by gambling on Monopoly, which paid off! You two can pass Go and collect $200!
In other news, tragedy struck a few teams throughout the night as well as myself. I incorrectly read off "savages" as "sausages", which brought shame unto my house when I was later jokingly accosted by said group of savages. The Baby Cheezes mistakenly wrote down "Francis Scott Key" in our Guess Who round rather than F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author's namesake, even though they knew the right answer! And finally, many teams learned the hard way that the Dallas Cowboys did not play in any Super Bowl between 1980-1989...which prevented a few DoN's from happening.
But in the end, good news was bestowed upon Mike Tyson's Speech School, who took home first place by a wide margin! Second place went to Area 51, who were a team I met during my training night over six months ago. And third place went to Hoof Hearted, who used their daughter's cuteness to win over the hearts of the surrounding teams (just look at that picture!).
Have a great week, everyone! And while you're waiting for next week's game, check out these great movies recommended to me by Area 51: Titanic 2: Return of the Cage, starring Nicolas Cage; and Pineapple Express 2: Saul's Revenge. Both of them won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, if you didn't know!
